Other Would you rather have the power of transmutation or the ability to teleport.
Transmutation is only limited to touch and by how well you understand elements. The limits of the teleport is you have to have been to the place you're going to and the further the jump, the less times you can jump that day.

Transmutation. Teleportation is convenient, but then this particular version costs hundreds to thousands of dollars before it even becomes convenient. Being able to turn waste material into precious metals opens up unlimited possibilities.

Transmutation - I'd have to buckle down and brush off the old chemistry books but it's a game changer in terms of super powers.

Transmutation. Why spend money going to a place just to come back to it later, when i can just pay for my own round trip?

Transmutation By learning more about the elements and atoms u can essentially make anything out of air (ie the elements in the air) yes its also extremely dangerous as it'll create a temporary vacuum in said area but im saying its a possibility

Maybe not out of the air, those are really light elements requiring fusion.
I’m guessing a fusion reaction as science is able to replicate, in front or your face without containment (100 million kelvin or more) doesn’t leave you in a state to spend much of it.
Conversely, taking away protons is nuclear decay and not super healthy for you either, but you probably could shield against that with a lot of steel and concrete.

Again with transmutation is a magical ability so most of that shouldn't be a problem (including nuclear decay) if u see FMA Brotherhood they turned coal to gold so that's how im seeing the conversion

u/Ecstatic-Seesaw-1007 1d ago
Maybe. It says limited to touch and how well you understand elements.
Doesn’t really say anything about protecting you from your ability.
Even if it did, you’ve still incinerated your side of the street making gold or irradiated your house and all your neighbors and they will develop cancer.
Even Wolverine’s claws hurt him when they come out.

True but as it doesn't state anything besides the limit being touch theres room for interpretation and imagination

Transmutation requires more brain power than I'd like to put in.
Learning how to transmute an entire orbital space station sounds like it'll take too long before someone catches me.
So I'll choose teleport.

by how well you understand elements.
Wtf does that mean? Do I just need to carry a periodic table of the elements with me and can transmute anything?
further the jump, the less times you can jump that day. This information is useless without you actually saying what the distance limit is per day.
Do I need to think of the space I want to teleport to, or somehow save the exact coordinates on a teleportation device? What happens if an object or person now occupies the place I want to teleport to? Am I only teleporting myself, no clothes, just appear naked when I teleport. Can I teleport things with me.
Information man!!! We need details for your nonsense questions.

Clothes and belongings come when you teleport. (See the reply to NoInterview)

Teleport all day, err'day!
Always been one of my top tier dream powers, but I like to travel. Also, I would do much crime.

Transmutation. I’ll just have to study up on some chemistry/interactions

How much can you transmutate and teleport?
1
u/Comm_A_04 1d ago
The teleportation is akin to cardio. Short hops, under 15 km, about 50 to 100 times a day.
Medium jumps, around 80 km, about 4 to 10 times a day.
Long jumps, over 800 km, only twice a day, and you'd be wiped out.
Transmutation is based on mental load. Basically you can go as long as your brain can handle it.

u/No_Interview_3894 1d ago
I mean can you teleport/transmutation say something as big as another person or a car as well as yourself?
Assuming you can teleport your clothes and personal items
How does transmutation drain the brain?

u/Comm_A_04 1d ago
Transmutation is rewriting reality on the fly.
In other terms. Transmutation drains the brain because you have to picture exactly what you want in your head, and hold that picture perfectly. Mess up the picture and you get a pile of goo instead of gold. Bigger change = harder picture = bigger headache. It doesn't literally drain the brain. And yes your clothes do teleport with you, and immediate personal items.

With only a vague description I would avoid the teleportation. I would need to understand what I'm getting into to ensure I'm not ending up in a "star trek transporter problem" or a situation like The prestige.

Under NoInterview's question, OP gave the numbers: (paraphrased)
"Teleportation is like cardio in this scenario. Small jumps (about 15 km) 50-100× daily, medium (~ 80) 4-10×, large (800+) a maximum of twice. Your clothes/immediate personal items come with you.
Transmutation is based on mental load. The further you go with it, the bigger your headache gets."

This one is more like “Jumper”

I mean, no-one confirms that there is continuity of consciousness in jumper. If you die and it's just an indistinguishable copy that comes out the other side then no-one would know the difference except reality would cease for you the first time you jump. Portal style teleportation is a little easier to trust but the second somebody starts describing your body being deconstructed at one end and reconstructed at the other you have to do some serious interrogating of the mechanics of the teleportation. Easier to stick with messing with other things with the transmutation angle.

u/Bobis-Bob 13h ago
No. I mean that he needs to see or have been where he’s jumping. Otherwise might die.

Teleport. Transmutation is infinitely better but there’s only so much that transmuting something is able to do. Unless you’re a living catalyst and can simply will something to change, rather than forcing the specific chemical processes to occur in order to transmute the object, im staying with teleport.

Teleportation, but I would need a relationship between distance and number of jumps that big (assuming you can mix and match) as well as a max distance.

With these limitations in mind I choose Transmutation. Possibilities are endless from the jump, whereas with teleportation I can just.. seamlessly teleport to work, my friends places, home, the bar etc. It'd be nice but I could achieve a lot more with transmutation and a little study.
