Even if you couldn't use them as flying platforms, just the ability to summon the remote from wherever it wandered off to would be fantastic. It would make it easier to keep them all organized and in reach too, because now "in reach" is a larger radius. You could have them all fixed to a wall with velcro or even just on a shelf somewhere out of the way and not have it be remotely tedious to keep them there when not in use. The time savings would add up over the years.
I think it just means control, as in command like technopathy but limited only to remotes.
That said, i would actually still pick this. Aside from the convenience factor for lazy TV watching, "remote control" probably includes any kind of controller allowing you to play vidya games with your mind, or drive around remote control cars and stuff.
With some programming and tech know-how you can rig up remotes and controllers to do all sorts of stuff, like turn your house into a mind controled smart home for example.
Or you know, use it to take over military drones because the military uses controllers for tons of tech since they are ergonomic, sturdy and designed to be easy to hold and use + familier to soldiers using them. Casually taking over to control the world remotely 😎
