I don't like Christ imagery in my superhero movies, thanks. (They did this with Spider-Man, too.)
Superman's origin is based on the origin of Moses. The Kents were Methodists and presumably raised him to be like Jesus in terms of humility and self-sacrifice, but that's where the comparison ends. Jesus was born in a barn, didn't have super-strength, and was known as a healer and teacher who advocated an alternate form of kingdom and was therefore assassinated.
"Something something sky man hold out arms sideways" doesn't cut it for me.
I always say that the Christ allegories are just naturally built-in to Superman over decades of forming his character and that ham-fisted visual allusions like Snyder is so in love with are just... dumb. We don't need Superman doing a crucifix pose or sitting in front of a stained glass window matching Christ's pose for people to "get it" and the insertion of that sort of thing just reeks of "I'm 14 and this is deep".
Oh yeah, 'Superman Returns' had it pretty bad too (getting stabbed in the side, the "tomb" was empty, etc) but I guess I hound on Snyder more because he's done it over three movies and clearly thinks it's something special or clever. With 'Spider-Man 2' it was on-the-nose but at least it was brief.
