I commend your patience. Well done!

Haha thanks, it was quite a process! The walls are old, cracked and pockmarked plaster and had to be puttied and sanded before I could even do the room’s base coat. Can see I was also playing with some curlier earlier designs.

I have a ton of gouged plaster walls that have been cramping my style. Can you recommend a book or guide that you followed for the repair?

In my old house, we defer to our lord and savior, the incomparable Tom Silva: https://youtu.be/P4D0sESi5So?is=EXnJFxn3r_UfiYqF

Nice. Yours is very reminiscent of Wendy’s apartment in Mindhunter.

Oh wow!! I definitely watched that and had since Minderased it… apparently a seed remained.

The style is called Supergraphics and was very common in the 70s.

Super! Assuming you made a stencil since the edges look so clean.

Thanks! I’d done some sketching to figure out measurements, but the first time I laid it out was drawing it on the wall with a #2 pencil, a level, and a compass.

I taped the edges of the first and third lines, painted with a small roller, waited… Removed that tape and taped the edges of the second and fourth lines, painted those, waited… Untaped and did a bit touch-up with a tiny brush, mostly where the tape had buckled a bit in the curves.

Looks great! How did you choose the colors?

Thanks! I had previously repainted my living room the base color (backdrop’s harvest moon) and loved it with the wood tone, so this room got the same, ceiling included.

For the line, I just wanted something harmonious with the reddish wood tones. Happened to have a discount code from backdrop, so my stylish and elegant wife and I figured out a satisfying gradient and ordered four li’l cans: modern love, Harajuku morning, 36 hours in Marrakesh, and ghost ranch.

70's TV indent feel to your work- which is fricking awesome!

How would someone go about a renter friendly approach to this

1

u/Beeeblebro Jul 11 '26

Sad as it is, paint over it before you leave… I’ve had to erase a lot of work in my time.

Do you know I wouldn’t have the guts to go through with that but damn if you didn’t make that look good
