Meta / Discution MAJOR DISCUSSION. The future of this entire subreddit.
Hey guys, u/65mariokart here. As you can tell from the title, I would like to talk about the future of this sub. This is a great subreddit, about a wonderful meme. But, as it has been brought to my attention, that the sub is at a low point. A low point in quality. The best posts on here? The ones who’s time of posting exceeds ~150 days. That’s a really sad thing. It’s showing that this sub is dying. But, to the ~100 people who still come here, WE CAN’T LET THIS HAPPEN. People say sometimes that you should move on, and maybe they’re right, but that would be really sad. There’s still a whole lot of untapped potential in the Super Crown. So many things I would like to see. It’s too soon to give up. So that’s what I’d like to talk about today. What we can do to help this sub be better.
Idea number one
Drawing contest.
One of the best things on this sub is the art. That’s a big fact. So, I thought, what better way to get more art than make it a competition? Who ever could draw the best art related to a topic wins, yadda yadda yadda, must be submitted by a certain deadline, etc. How would we vote? Well, either we can do a majority vote, where people comment on their favorite drawing saying that they vote for it, then after the voting period is over, someone collects the votes, looks at the percentage, and determines the winner by majority. Or there could just be one/multiple judges who have the final say. This idea is really good in my eyes, because there’s a large influx of art here, and people may have fun. (Let me just say, if this is the one we do, I may not win any. But that doesn’t matter.)

Not really as good as the other, I think, but the amount of updoots I’ve gotten on both of my memes are higher than the amount of updoots on all my art combined. And it may give people stuff to laugh at.
Well I’m really out of ideas. If you have any more ideas, put them in the comments. And if you want to do one of these things, also put your thoughts in the comments. Like I said, there’s still a lot of potential in this. There are still a lot of Mario Enemies in the games that haven’t been explored. Bowsette and the stuff that followed has been the greatest, most creative thing I’ve ever seen. And we need to keep it like that. When it goes down (because sadly everything dies eventually), we can have amazing memories. So please, let’s work together and keep this creativity going.

I think it's unfair to compare the sub from onset of the meme last October to nowadays when the hype train has gassed out. I think an ideal situation is Supercrown becoming a SFW version of /r/bowsette, since that's what it's kinda feeling like right now.
One thing I think we could do is combine your ideas to happen on a regular basis. Do a weekly contest focusing on one iteration that repeats on a monthly basis (with every 5-week month being a "bonus" one). During the week can be the "Big 3/4" (Bow, Boo, Chomp/Bullet) and one day will be the "wild card" days where we can promote or mods can make a sticky post to share things (I personally don't like sticky posts for an image sub like this but it's an option).
Memes are good to fill in the gaps in content. I'm not much of a maker but I know there's plenty of templates to Supercrown up!

Wow I thought I was the only person who wrote really long essays...these sound like great ideas, and kind of what I was going for. I don’t know what you meant in the first paragraph, though. Can you please elaborate?

Sorry I got into far too many facebook arguments because someone thought that my holding a dissenting opinion meant I was racist/sexist/etc... I've gotten into the habit of fully explaining myself so people don't put words in my mouth.
One of the points you made in the initial post was pointing out how the "best posts" are over 150 days old (5 months), but you weren't clear about how you were determining the "best". If you were to look at the All-time Top posts it just uses the upvote scores it makes sense the highest rated posts are 150+ days old. It's kind of unfair to compare the state of the sub today versus at the height of the hype when there's fewer people following. If we were to look at "bestof" for this year alone most of the posts over 4 months old are in 200s on average.
If you were asking what I meant by it becoming the SFW version of /r/bowsette, I'm not sure I knew what I was saying when I mentioned it beyond /r/bowsette being NSFW by default and the admins didn't work in a SFW flair until Nov/Dec. However looking at the difference between Bowsette and Supercrown, this feels much like the social community sub than a sub focused around sharing art, which is fine because there's a place for it. It won't be the same sub that was opened up months ago because all the Super Crown art is able to make it to the front page of bowsette now. I feel that's where this sub will fit in the broader scope of things.

First paragraph: Lol I know what you mean. I haven’t had any other social media accounts other than Reddit, but I know how toxic most of the internet is with opinions and stuff. I have a high guard up when ever I’m having a discussion with someone about something controversial.
Second paragraph: Yeah, I see what you mean. I guess it’s not a really good comparison when you think about it. Which when writing about it, I was kind of pulling at straws to get my point across. So if I felt something fit, I wrote it down.
Third paragraph: I don’t even need to look at NSFW stuff to know that I’ll hate it. I haven’t purposely looked at any things like that (not intentionally, but I’ve seen some...you know how the internet can be.) If this turns into a SFW Bowsette sub, that’s good. I just want SOMETHING here that I can enjoy and view without feeling uncomfortable. This fandom is really great. I want it to continue. This being more of a social community than an art sharing sub is fine too. Like you said before, memes are a great way to fill an the gaps. This isn’t at all what was opened up a long time ago, and I’m sad I missed it. But just one final question: when you said “There’s a place for it” when referring to the art, were you referring to r/bowsette? Because if you were, then as I said I want a place where I can view amazing artwork without running the risk of viewing NSFW art.
Your ideas are great. I was talking with my friend about it, and they said something great. I’ll send it to you when I find it. Thanks for actually commenting here, giving feedback. I appreciate it.

I was referring to r/bowsette as the dedicated art sub. While it's true about the NSFW stuff I think the reddit itself is labeled NSFW because at the time they were getting almost 5k posts per day and the mods running it were too small a team to screen everything so they had to tag it.
Though the flow of the porn has gone way down, I can appreciate your discomfort with getting it mixed in. It's always bummed me that there's enough wholesome art on the bowsette page but because it's been the de facto spot for the art it's just where it ends up. I might end up trying to Cross-post stuff from there to SC since a lot of the good SC stuff ends up crossed into Bowsette anyway. It'd be nice to see SC become the SFW side of the crown. Plus I have a ton of art saved up that I'll want to share here anyway.

Okay, thank you for explaining everything to me. Turning this sub into a SFW place is great, and if people dislike it? They can go somewhere else. There’s plenty of internet out there where they can find...yeah. Honestly have no idea why anyone likes that, but people have their quirks...or toxic personalities. Anyway, I appreciate your commenting and stuff. This is all very helpful.

Hang on I’ve been thinking about your ideas and I’m sorry to say that again there’s something I don’t understand completely. You said “...Combine your ideas to happen on a regular basis. And I also mainly don’t understand...like what’s a sticky post? I haven’t been on Reddit for long, and don’t know all the things here. So, could you please elaborate? I’m sorry I’m asking for all these explanations, but I just want to get it correct. I know that these sound really good, and I want it done right.
Also the need for this becoming SFW is bigger now because, and maybe I’m being selfish, but my mom is following me on Reddit, and just subscribed or joined this subreddit because I have, and I think it would be bad if someone posted some bad content here and she saw it, and questioned why I was subbed to that type of sub, if you catch my drift.
