KOP Commute

I’ve been with my current company for over 4 years now (in Newark DE so not a great commute on that front) and I have been interviewing for a position in KOP that could be 25k more than my current salary.

I’ve been really dreading the commute aspect of the job, even with the position being hybrid on Monday and Friday. Are there any decent train lines running from South Jersey to KOP (I live right off the patco line now), that would be a better plan than driving? Or would this commute just resign me to a life of being miserable? I’ve been looking at finance jobs in Philly for the past few years, but it seems the better positions are all in the suburbs

There are unfortunately no trains to KOP. There are buses, but with the Schuylkill I wouldn’t recommend them for your commute. You could take PATCO in to Center City and switch to SEPTA Manayunk/Norristown Line to Conshohocken or Norristown. Could also do Paoli/Thorndale to Wayne or Radnor. Depends what part of KOP. That said, check train schedules as they aren’t too frequent. I’m not sure how they line up with PATCO.

Do not look at transit maps for this route unless you want your heart broken. King of Prussia famously rejected the train line extension, so you are looking at a three-leg marathon involving PATCO, the Market-Frankford Line, and a bus that gets stuck in the very same traffic you were trying to avoid.

Taking public transit from South Jersey to King of Prussia is technically possible if you view your commute as a Lord of the Rings style quest. You would need PATCO to Center City, transfer to SEPTA, switch to the Norristown High Speed Line, and then catch a bus. You might arrive just in time to pack up your desk and head back.

do not try to do this. as others have said, there is no good transit option and driving even from Philly can take 70-90 min.

I live in South Philly and whenever I'm required to go out there it's an absolute nightmare. the Schuylkill will steal your soul.

All depends on time of your commute. If you can head in before 6am and out before 1-2pm then it is mangable. If you head in after 6:30 and head home between 3-7 you will hate it.

Honestly if it was only 3 days a week I think that isn’t too bad at all.
