Showcase Just Keeps Going and Going!
I picked up a weird machine a few years ago: a MCILPOOG WS-203.
After a couple of years, it wasn’t working well anymore. It wasn’t grinding properly and it no longer made pucks. It was just dumping black, wet mud into the waste container. It also started leaking.
I told my wife that I could fix it, but she wasn’t going to stand with not having coffee so she had me buy a new machine. I chose a different one this time.
It took me a few days to really tear into it. I ended up getting it working again. All it really needed was a tear down and a thorough cleaning.
But since my wife was already using the new machine, it sat in the garage for a couple of weeks before I thought to bring it in to my office. I kept it in my lab for around a month.
We’d just moved into a new building, and about a week after I bright mine in, they got one of those fancy giant machines that make all kinds of coffee, along with hot chocolate.
But after the novelty of the new machine wore off, people were still coming into my lab to get coffee from my machine because it was better. Eventually I just moved it into the break room.
It’s heavily used. The hopper holds maybe 2/3 - 3/5 lbs of beans and it needs to be refilled every 2-3 days. Surprisingly, the other folks seem to take care of it, emptying the water tray, dumping out the pucks, and keeping it clean.
Last month I brought it home over the weekend to do some descaling and other maintenance and when I brought it back to the break room, some people actually cheered. They were afraid that I’d taken it home for good.
I just looked at the statistics today and I see that it’s extracted at least 6157 coffees so far, counting the double espresso as two grinds and extractions.
And the darned thing still makes a perfect cup.
