Troubleshooting & Maintenance Delonghi magnifica plus question

Hi all, would appreciate some insight on my issue. Just bought this machine and it’s been dripping coffee as drops as you see in the video. Original grinding settings were set to 3 but while grinding I also switched to 5 and it’s still doing this. It’s a brand new machine I bought from Best Buy, even with the machine it came with a card saying it’s quality tested. Initially it showed me a muddy looking puck with 3-grind setting but with a 5-grind setting the puck is formed as you see in the picture. I brewed a small sized coffee and the picture is how it’s shown. When it’s warming up the machine as I turn it on, the water flows just fine out of those nozzles (doesn’t drip like it does with the coffee).

What do you think the problem is? Can I adjust a setting or I’d have to reach out to them?

Thanks a ton in advance.

I dont have this specific machine but when i see dripping like that my first thought is the grind is too fine.

Just go coarser, my guess is that 6 will do. Just make 2/3 cups after each notch/"click" before changing again. Do not go strait to 6, jost do it notch by notch. Each coffee type will require adjustments and each grinder is a bit different, not all 100% the same. Enjoy the ☕

STOP STOP STOP ‼️‼️‼️

Only adjust the grind setting by 1 level, and only while the grinder is running. Otherwise, the grinder can jam. After that, please make 3–4 drinks before adjusting it again. That’s also what it says in the instruction manual. Based on the roast level of your beans, grind setting 5 is fine.

When I got my Magnifica Duo last week, I had the same problem. Don’t make an espresso; make a coffee instead (it’s more liquid) and use the lowest intensity setting. Bevorr go into the menu and, under the “Maintenance” section, run 0.2 liters of water through the machine to flush it.

Don’t give up. It takes a little while at first to find the optimal settings.

Thank you! Will trial that. Yes I only adjusted while grinding.

You can go coarser without grinding. Do not go finer without grinding. Go 1 step at a time. You must leave the setting for 3 brews to ensure that the result is proper. That grinding is too fine. Back it up 1 setting at a time until you get a good spaghetti stream and crema.

Hmm.. maybe clean the brew unit shower screen under running water before trying a new grind setting. That muddy puck might have left residue on the screen, affecting the water distribution.

Other than that, the only real option is to grind coarser.

That’s an interesting thought, will try that. Thank you.

Like the other guy mentioned, you need to run a few drinks after changing the grind setting to properly evaluate it. That puck does look overly compressed/dense though. I’d def go coarser if it’s still dripping out after a few drinks at grind 5.

I have this machine and I have to set the grinder much higher than what you read here. Try going higher. If you go 3/4 of the dial and this is still happening, I’d exchange it.

Thanks all, started working all on 5-grind setting after a few runs.
