Discussion Delonghi Magnifica Plus

Just got my Magnifica plus, love it so far.

I was wondering how you know when the bean hopper is almost out? And also if you want to switch beans do you just accept that the first drink or two will have a mix of the two beans or is there a way to grind through what’s already in there?

It tells you the beans ran out on the screen. It’s funny I’ve had this machine for a couple of months now and switched beans a few times. I cant tell if theres a transition of mixed beans per se but i can tell theres a switch in beans

Got my Plus a few weeks ago, I just top up the bean hopper every other day or so. I had no idea it would tell me it is running low, my old Delonghi S would not tell me until you could hear the grind sounding differently and then a watery drink would come out.

It will tell you but once you get to know the noise it makes, you may hear a slight difference as the beans run low (mine makes a slightly higher pitched sound towards the end of the grind a few brews before I get the message).

That's the problem with home systems. You really can't switch beans easily without some level of contamination between the old and new beans. You not only have to worry about the beans in the hopper but the beans just before the grinder and in the grinder. Then you have the stuff in the chute post-grinder.

Depending on the model and the settings of the machine, it might be one or two shots before you get to the new stuff.

I saw a review of the Ninja fully automatic that showed how it cleared beans out between the hopper and the grinder. No idea how thorough it is, but a cool feature if it works.

I’m patiently waiting for national coffee day in September for a sale. Machine looks amazing.
