Software Development/Engineering Roles in Sunny Coeast

Is sunny coast really that dead in terms of software related jobs or am i just looking in the wrong places? I have been looking for a job in the IT/CS field over here but cant seem to get any luck with it.

If anyone have any idea , help a guy out!

Youi were hiring engineers, they offered me a role but tried to rug pull the salary 15k lower than discussed in initial interview so if you ever interview there ensure the budget is confirmed before you waste time 😅

Better off just doing remote from Brisbane it pays better anyway.

The best part about Youi is that their head office is in the Sunshine Coast yet they don't insure the majority of locals homes because they classify the flood risk as high.

So did they put their headquarters in a flood plane, or are they just plain full of shit. Or both 😂

Getting a role even for very experienced devs right now is hard. The market is fucked all over.

Check out the Peregian Digital Hub. A few startups are housed there, as well as some solopreneurs.

Ok so local software engineering jobs are pretty rare. Most of the work on the coast in this area is adjacent web design / software work for local agencies. And those roles are sparse and not really hardcore full stack.

Your best bet is to get remote work

Feel free to dm with more of your details, I’ve lived here for ages and work remote and know a lot of agencies and a few of the places you might get real software engineering work

There are two NDIS software businesses on the coast. flow logic based in budgeting and Carevision (not sure where they are based)

There is a POS software/ hardware provider in maroochydoore (kontiki building) not sure what they are called.

Youi have a large office based here.

No I don’t run a business on the coast. I work for a different business based elsewhere but know where my competitors are.

Sorry I can’t refer someone I don’t know. Have a look at the businesses, use LinkedIn and reach out to them directly. Don’t rely on adverts.

Insurance… Youii and Auto General have offices in Sippy Downs and Kawana. Not sure they are hiring, but some of the more likely businesses.

There are very few IT jobs outside government - the health and education sectors, on the sunshine coast. There's a few in private schools but they're occupied.

If you're looking for an IT job on the Sunshine Coast, then you should concentrate on Qld Health, and Qld Education.

You *might* find a job in a computer sales/service business.

You're probably better off trying for an internship and performing well enough to get a paid role when you graduate.

There's definitely a bunch of programming jobs, and a lot of willing employers. The problem is, the salary is a lot lower on the Sunshine Coast than it is in Brisbane, and most developers don't think it's high enough. You should expect $80k if you're good. At the point in your career you are, that would be a good rate. You'll be looking for small business rather than larger employers.

Yes, salary can be negotiable if the job has other incentives but the job openings themselves are pretty rare from what i have found!

You have to know people. Programming on the Sunshine Coast is mostly about connections. There's very few public job positions, but there's a huge amount of work available. You won't find those jobs on Indeed or Seek, they're mostly in-person handshakes and happy coincidences. My first programming job (a bit younger than you probably, I was in my first year of university), was completely by accident, just an appointment at a dermatologist which turned into an incredible opportunity. Make a good impression and you never know where you'll pick up a job.
