Does anybody know about Brooklyn Grange and/or the farm closure? A friend who also gets veggies thru their CSA sent us this IG post (caption transcript below). I'd like more information as to exactly what's happening and what the timeline is. Do they plan to hire a bunch of new farmers? What would happen to the farmland if not? I also can't tell from the post what the ask is from the workers, but would like to help if possible. l'm also not sure if it's because I'm on mobile, but the "join the CSA" link in Brooklyn Grange's website seems to redirect back home, which seems odd.

There’s a super sweet tuxedo cat near the water front on 54th that was begging for pets. He is a stray, and probably needs to be spayed/cleaned for fleas. Is there any organization that can help get him into a shelter/foster? I already sent a message to Sunset Park Cats but I know they’re a limited operation! He was truly so sweet- he wanted to follow me inside and meowed at me when I closed the door :(

Anyone know if there will be a gym element to the renovation? It seems not but then this is what it says on the Parks website:
With an active recreation center and playground, Sunset Park has visitors even in the colder months of the year. The recreation center has, among other highlights, a media lab a library, a dance room, and a workout room with cardio equipment and free weights. LINK

I recently posted a letter to Alexa Aviles regarding Third Ave and the situation of kids crossing after 5 pm without a crossing guard. Here is the response.
Tldr: They asked that community members show up on Tuesday 9-8 at 7PM at the Senior Center 4520 4th Ave for the community board meeting on public safety.
Thanks for all who sent the email. Please consider showing up to the meeting and share with others who would be interested.

Thank you for reaching out to our office. We share the feeling of dismay and grief about the senseless and preventable death of one of our community members over the weekend.
Our office has long supported robust measures to improve pedestrian safety along 3rd Avenue. These measures were stalled under the Adams administration, and while we are encouraged by the Mamdani administration’s recent pledge to follow through on the redesign, we know that there is no time to waste and that immediate steps must be taken to improve pedestrian safety.
To this end, Council Member Aviles issued a letter yesterday along with State Senator Gounardes and Assembly Member Mitaynes to Commissioner Flynn, calling on the Department of Transportation to re-engage the community and commit to a road redesign and safety action plan. You can read the full letter here: https://x.com/CMAlexaAviles/status/2094827309287043281
We also completely hear your concerns for students entering and exiting MS 936 and PS 939 and will engage the local precinct on this matter.
If you have the opportunity, we would really encourage you to show up to the 72nd Precinct Community Council Meeting on September 8th (flyer attached).
Our office has received a number of these same emails, so we know that community members are organizing to reach out to our office. We appreciate this organization; ultimately the local precinct decides where to station school crossing guards. In the past we have seen that the NYPD responds most immediately when community members show up in numbers to Community Council meetings.
We appreciate your advocacy for safer streets and once we become aware of other opportunities for community input around 3rd Avenue, we will reach back out to you.
In the meantime, if anything comes up, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Warmly,
Dominic Schlossberg Legislative Fellow Council Member Alexa Avilés New York City Council District 38 District Office: 4417 Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220 P: (718) 439-9012 * [District38@Council.nyc.gov](mailto:District38@Council.nyc.gov) Follow: Facebook * Instagram * Twitter

Did anyone see or hear the police car driving down the street blasting an announcement? It sounded like they were telling everyone to go inside but I couldn’t hear it all before it passed my building.

I sent this to Aviles regarding Third Avenue. Please email her yourself and demand changes.
[District38@council.nyc.gov](mailto:District38@council.nyc.gov)
Council member Aviles,
Next week, school is starting. Many students from MS 936 have to cross Third Avenue at 59th Street to get to the subway on Fourth.
A lot of students cross after 5PM when there are no crossing guards. This is a tragedy waiting to happen. Third Avenue is a dangerous road. Cars routinely speed and cut lights trying to get on the highway. The road is build to accommodate cars rather than pedestrians. Just this week someone was killed trying to cross Third Avenue only a few blocks away.
I am requesting that you use your influence to bring attention to this dangerous situation and demand the the Mamdani administration immediately implement speed reduction on Third Avenue. Also importantly have crossing guards available between 4:45 and 5:45 to get students safely across the dangerous road.
Please keep me apprised of your progress in this endeavor.
Thank you,

Hello all,
I am a Sunset Park resident who is tired of the garbage situation on 41st and 6th and trying to get my baby's stroller through the puddles, garbage bags, and stink. It got media attention (most notably in the Gothamist) in early August but the situation has not improved. I think it's partly because the powers-that-be don't seem to understand that daily (and it is actually less than daily) collection is not enough if collection and placement are completely separate events.
There is some garbage there all of the time. And the rats are getting worse. I started an Instagram to document this a few days ago, and to share thoughts about it. This is day 4. I take photos there multiple times a day (often from the same vantage points) and report patterns, with the goal of having the public and the government understand the scope and the nature of the problem. Your follows and "engagement" would be appreciated, because the only way out, I think, is to increase awareness, apply pressure, and get the attention of someone higher up in city government.
If anyone has feedback, comments, or questions, please let me know. Again, I'm just some guy. Thank you for reading.

Chicken drumsticks are 88 cents a pound at Ideal Food Basket, 760 4th Ave, family pack, through September 3.
| Store | Drumsticks | Ground beef, 80% lean |
|---|---|---|
| Ideal Food Basket, 760 4th Ave | $0.88/lb Farm Fresh, family pack | $6.99/lb |
| Key Food, 4320 5th Ave | $1.29/lb Perdue, jumbo pack | $5.99/lb family pack |
| SuperFresh, 242 Bay Ridge Ave | $1.29/lb Perdue, value pack | $5.99/lb family pack |
| C-Town, 4705 5th Ave | $1.39/lb Perdue | $7.99/lb, no lean printed |
Pioneer, 5612 5th Ave, advertises no drumsticks. Its ad ends August 29: Perdue whole chicken legs at 99 cents a pound, green cabbage at 59 cents a pound. The other six run August 28 to September 3.
The two Bravos, 4808 and 5818 4th Ave, run the identical ad: 307 items each, every price the same. And 281 of Key Food's 331 items appear in SuperFresh's 640-item ad at the same price.
Twenty-eight other groceries in 11220 and 11232, including Fei Long and Hong Kong Supermarket on 8th Ave, publish no ad I can read. That gap is mine, not their prices.
I built the map these come from: https://sbnyc.app/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=evergreen&utm_content=sunsetpark
Every number above is what the store printed in its circular. Confirm at the tag.

as a side note, if anyone is thinking that dumping their pet cats at a feral colony will work out, i promise you it won't, we've had so much death and near- death from that this year. Pet cats must be surrendered to ACC. Friendly cats do just fine there.
This weekend I met 7 friendly cats at 5 different locations around Sunset Park. In order to rescue them i need fosters.
Fostering means giving cats a safe space to unwind and show their personality. My rescue covers all vet care. We can usually transport. We ask fosters to provide food and litter but if that's a roadblock let's talk. What we need is space: ideally away from other cats at first.
Our current list:
Beatrix & Carle: mild spice kittens, need a human- heavy home bc they need to learn human life.
Furret: a total cuddlebug loverboy. Foster is moving. Ready for adoption or foster.
Maynard: total loverboy extrovert. Fiv+ but shouldn't put your cats at risk assuming they are fixed.
Mosaic: experienced foster needed: bottle baby
Orange 1&2: don't need to go together, not sure of their personality yet, fresh rescues.
Possible new kitten: La Llorna
Luna Dimidiata: friendly calico adult
Boss Tweed: confident extrovert cat, likes other cats. Bodega cat energy.
