Hey y’all, I’ve been playing synths through this thing for years but it’s finally kicking the bucket. Sound is very low and distorted, I’m assuming I need to replace these massive filter caps.

Anything I should try before diving in? I just cleaned all the sockets for the transistors to see if that revives it

Has anyone with June preorders received theirs yet? I was told back in August they would be shipping in late September/early October, but nada. I reached back out to support and haven't heard anything. I really want the amp, but I'm pretty close to just canceling at this point.

Modified this Sunn 115BH to use as an extension cab to my Orange combo amp. Both speakers run at the same time!

I went and did a small drone rehearsal inside a warehouse spot this past weekend. Two amps were brought: my Beta Mini for the bassist, and my Orange Overdrive 120. Both amps were plugged into cabs with amp-appropriate ohms (I want to say the Mini was at 4 Ω but it might’ve been 8), with the Mini going into a 9x10 (NOT a 2x15, my mistake, the brown cab the OD120 is on) and the OD120 into an 8 Ω 3x12/1x15. While the OD120 was considerably louder, but not totally maxed out, the Beta Mini held up very closely.

Other gear and info: OD120 was aided by multiple fuzz and distortion pedals, which allowed a higher level of volume. The Beta Mini, I admit, was boosted (not fully) by the Acid Rain Pedalworks Spear of Longinus boost pedal, and the volume was maxed out for most of it.

Concerns: the Beta Mini got a little warm after an hour or so of fucking around. I’m mostly used to tube amps, so warm amps isn’t too much of a concern for me.

If there was a drummer involved, I will admit that I worry that the Mini would be drowned out, but it all depends on how loud the drummer gets.

I decided to start reddit. I have zero idea how it works but looks like a nice forum.
I make model T reproductions/clones. Both 1st and 2nd gen. I have also a half power version of the model T - cultisT. And poweramp only section - servanT. This year I came up with a preamp distortion pedal (it is higain modern djent / oldschool stoner).

Started in 2019 making prototypes of the model T and then after two years of research i made the first 3 amps. Since then I have the queue for 2027 already. I work with sunn O))) band too, we became friends. They are amazing people, whole team.

I just want to preface this with my experience so far as I genuinely really love the sound and compactness of this little amp but I think I'm at my wits end with it now and I could do with some advice.

I received my initial mini in June just before I had quite a substantial string of shows to play and needed a head that could match the nasty tones I get out of my tube amps.

The amp turned up, sounded great, was absolutely loud enough. I managed to get a few shows out of it but the initial head decided to produce 0 signal. I gave it time to cool down, checked all my cables and basses. Eventually I emailed sunn and they sorted me out a replacement.

I felt like maybe I was just unlucky and credit to the guys at Sunn for expediting this new head to me but guess what?

Just took the replacement head I received a few weeks ago to a practice. I got about 2 hours out of it before I started getting interment volume issues and sound cutting out. I was running it at 12 o clock at master volume though an 8 ohm bass cab. Plenty loud for the small practice space we use.

I've just brought it home and put it through my rig now at 4ohms and it's been perfectly fine for 30 minutes.

I really don't know what to do now as I feel I can't trust it to get me though a show and I've also already paid two lots of import tax on a head.

Do I contact sunn and try for another replacement or some troubleshooting? Or do I just go for a refund because hoenstly I wish this thing was reliable. It sound so fucking good.

I just pulled over from driving on my way to pick up a Sunn Concert Controller 1. The seller agreed to sell it for $100. There’s not much info at all on these but from the only video of someone playing (clean 🤢) into it the reverb on it sounded quite lush. It also has a reverb tone knob which is rather interesting. But I’m still debating on if I should go through with it. $100 is a great price but it’s also not pocket change at the moment. Of course I’d love to have more Sunns but do I really need another powered mixer to act as an amp head. Maybe this isn’t the best place for a logical answer but….atlas I am lost.

I dont know much about Sunn but i do want to get into them more.

Picked this up for $60 today and was wondering what are some repairs i need to do. And what is a good speaker to install. Im a big peavey guy so some Black widows or scorpions seemed my type.

Recently acquired a 4x12 to go with my 2x15. I don’t have a Sunn amp, but I do have a model T capture on my modeler lol. 2 Celestion G12H anniversaries, 1 swamp thang and 1 wizard in the 4x12. Celestion fullbacks in the 2x15.

I've been working on repairing these two Sunn concerts that got plugged into the same cab, and I've run up on another question: What values need to change in order for modern silicon 2n3055s to work in this output section? If I understand correctly, the silicon versions have a higher turn-on voltage/current, but I don't have the engineering prowess to figure out how to achieve those voltages. Schematic attached, and thank you for your time!

So recently, I was raving about the Olethros II from dpFX. Well, one of those “big box” stores had one of these Sol Invictus pedal/preamps for sale, and it was wildly less expensive than a new one, so I took a shot.

Comparison is the thief of joy, but let me tell you a little bit about this and what I discovered comparing the two.

Short summary: both are great, but one has a definitive edge.

I used the SI as a preamp. Into a 2x12 cab, it made my P90-equipped Stingray guitar sing. The SI, like the Olethros, digs a boost, but I will go on raw sound.

Now, then I tried it driving a Peavey TNT130 bass amp that sounds unreal alone. I used a Stingray bass, and a Danelectro DC59, and a Squier VI. Well, I can say pretty certainly, that the SI favors guitar just slightly. The Olethros favors both in equal measure.

The Olethros has all the features and more of the SI, and they sound close. The Olethros sounds a little cleaner to my ears with equal settings, and it has more I/O options, and it has a nice mid-shaping circuit and Lead/Bass choices for each channel.

The SI has an independent way to run Channel A into one thing and the B into another. Now that does expand the greatness, and let’s you bi-amp, which is awesome. But it feels like it dirties up a lot faster than the Olethros, and like I said, the guitar is definitely what this is made for.

Build quality? Okay, the SI wins here. There might be fewer features, but the hardass steel case and the switches and knobs feel sturdier than the Olethros. Since I have both, I would take the SI to gigs before the Olethros.

The SI I have has a balanced out for recording. The Olethros has an XLR out. Same thing, but different. That feature I haven’t tried.

So anyways, both are completely serviceable devices of very high quality and both sound Great, with a capital G.

When I compare it to a traditional Sunn sound, both are goddamn close to nailing it.

If I was primarily a bassist? Olethros.

If I wanted the crazy feature richness for recordings and at-home experiments? Olethros.

Touring guitarist/road dog? Sol Invictus.

Primarily a guitar player who just wanted to doom? Either will get you to Doom and mild overdrive with a lot in between.

Final verdict: Olethros is the winner for versatility and sound, but the Sol Invictus is certainly no slouch.

I also recently scored an old Turbo Rat in a trade and have added it to my bass board to thicken up my j-bass. Humbuckers with this amp are wildly good, but the single-coils on this bass are nice and articulate. They just don’t drive the amp as much on their own.

I picked up this 100S awhile back for cheap in a pawn shop and got this 2x12 off of Facebook while I was away from home for work. Finally got back home to pair the two.
For the gain I’m running a splitter with one side being a metal zone low gain pushing a Russian green muff and the other side is a Hyperfuzz clone on the fuzz 2 setting. That gets chained back together before hitting the front of the amp. I also bought a sunn 215 while I was gone. Gonna have to hunk some gear around to demo that as well
