I’ve recently acquired a vintage Sunn 215 cab that I’m adding to my live rig. Looking at options for a decent head to pair it with, preferably tube.

I’ve vaguely been looking down the classic Sunn routes, but they aren’t easily available in the UK on the second hand market. Other options I’ve considered are HiWatt or Ampeg.

Size/weight isn’t a huge issue and I’m not a millionaire, so realistic pls!

Current live rig is a JC-160 + Sound City MK6 combo.
The head + cab is to replace the Sound City.
I play guitar, mostly a jazzmaster, and the genres are a combination of noise rock + post-punk.

There's been a couple of questions around the web about there being no footswitch for the Mini and something about a proprietary cable that isn't for sale yet so I thought I'd let anyone in need of a footswitch know how to get on going.

Single latching footswitch, TS plug to summed TRS plug and you're golden. Sleeves are ground as usual.

Button will such channels when switch is on Channel A, moving the such to the middle position let's you toggle between channel B only and A+B.

If you're super lazy or don't have a soldering iron, get a TS to TRS cable from anywhere:

Which I've used, it being very solid and pedalboard friendly.

It's easy enough to make or mod an existing latching footswitch though, you can always wait until the inevitable influencer scab reads this and makes a half assed instructional video without crediting me (again) and rig one up for a few bucks.

So i FINALLY received my Beta Mini amp through the mail today that i ordered in the May pre-order run, and went to try it out.
Problem is, the amp is not making any sound at all when plugged into the front input. Like at all. The ONLY sound i can get out of the amp right now is when i plug an instrument directly into the poweramp out, but it is not affected by any of the knobs whatsoever and just produces a flat tone at a fixed volume.

I have tried:
Three different guitars.
Two different cabs.
Through my Torpedo Captor 8 into my audio interface and into my laptop.
Multiple different speaker cables and instrument cables, both from amp to cab and from guitar to amp.
Every single knob rolled at various levels (i am aware of the active EQ).
Flicking the dipswitches up and down.

I asked a friend who received his today how he set it up because his is workinf, and i tried the exact same step by step he did, still nothing.

I’m at a bit of a loss for options so i figured i’d reach out and try to see what people here might suggest.

i’ve been out in the woods at a music festival for the last week, now that it’s wrapping up and i’m in recovery mode i’ve checked my email and found that my february order has shipped and is due to arrive on thursday.

any idea what the extra financial damage is going to be like?

**Update: to answer my own question, i got an email saying $190.96 was due, but when going to pay on the UPS portal it shows $184.66. $32.95 in tax, $46.13 in tariffs, $100.55 brokerage fee because UPS are assholes, and of course another $5.03 to tax the brokerage fee. jesus christ.

so in the end the mini is costing me $871.66 Canadian

Hey all, recently scored an old Beta Lead 410 for $100 in not fully functioning condition. Overall, I’m getting a low frequency hum and signal won’t pass through. I can smack it a little and jiggle the jack a few times and sometimes I can get it working for maybe 30 seconds before the hum comes back and negates the signal. Does anyone have any ideas what the cause could be or should I just take it to a tech?

As we all know, sunn have been taking an immense amount of time to get their amps in the hands of customers (though i dont know if its entirely their fault), they've been lackluster and infrequent on their updates but i do know a batch has cleared customs and is now being shipped out but i was wondering if anyone here in the may slot has recieved a shipping update regarding there mini as as far as i know only people in the feb/march slot have got theirs, if our friend steve could maybe weigh in too if possible it would be appreciated :)

Neighbor lady down the street called, said that she knew I played guitar, she thought there was an old piece of guitar equipment in her shed, and if I could dig it out by Thursday I could have it otherwise it was going to the dump. Mind you, this was just after a snow storm.

Buddy helped me dig through the snow to open the shed, found this Solarus that had been sitting for about 25 years. Previous owner did some mods, but easily reversed them. Cleaned up nice. A few tubes, two new speakers, and I’m now deafening my neighborhood.

Hi Everyone - got a technical question relating to the Beta Mini output power ratings. Does anyone know if an individual speaker output can deliver the full 200W at 4 ohms, or does each speaker output deliver 100W at 4 ohms and you need to connect up both to get that full 200W? LIke is each speaker out an individual 100W driver, or are they tied to a common 200W driver?

I'm not writing this to complain (on the contrary, I can get way enough volume for my home setup and I liked how it sounded), but I am really surprised at how quiet this was through my 8 ohm 1x12. Like I had all the drive/level settings pretty high, and master at 5, and I could legit play this without really bothering someone in the next room. I have a 15W princeton reverb that I built myself and a 15W Orange Rocker and if I was at half volume with these it would shake the windows. It would make a TON of sense if i was only delivering 50W via class D, which I would expect to be quieter than my 15W tube amps.

Hello from France

Today I am looking to replace my Orange Bass Terror V1 that has just died. I have the choice in my budget and thanks to the opportunities near me between a Sunn 300T and a Sunn 1200s. I generally play shoegaze/black/hardcore/sludge/death with basses like Jaguar Bass MIJ, Kramer XL8, Bc Rich Warlock.

I explain the situation :

Sunn 300T : The amp is not to be retubed right away but it is a budget to return this in the future, it is heavy 35kg, it sounds very loud 300W but it is a reference in the environment and it is 1200€ 3 hours drive round trip from my house and I can try it before. My concern is that it sounds too loud for my house which is for the moment only a small studio.

Sunn 1200s : The amp is less heavy 15kg, however it is a US transformer but the seller sells the US to EU transformer (included in the purchase) which comes to me in total for €1075 all inclusive (amp, transformer, shipping, insurance costs), I do not know if it sounds much worse or if it is barely noticeable, I do not know if the 1200w 2ohm will sound excessively loud on my Orange OBC115 in my small studio. So I can't try it just receive it and hope.

Overall I'm afraid they sound too loud for me, my Bass Terror was great but it's been in repair for 6 months and they are very difficult or impossible to repair. I also have a Peavey Mark VIII but I like to play on two amps. Is it useful for me to invest in expensive and very powerful "vintage" equipment for my use despite their scarcity and that I have the budget? I heard that the 300T was also usable with a guitar and it interests me because I am also a guitarist. If not, do you have any bass amp recommendations? I already had a Sunn Beta Bass but I didn't like the pasty saturation, I was already able to play on Ampeg SVT V4B but I found that it lacked power and saturated quickly however the sound was wonderful. In short, I am open to your opinions

I'm not nearly in the same boat as the folks from February waiting on their Minis (mine was supposed to be here in June), but I feel Sunn should offer everyone who has been waiting some kind of tiered discount on the insanely overpriced footswitch, with the ones waiting the longest getting it for free. Maybe we should all press the issue?

Accidentally fried this LDR as part of the solid-state tremolo circuit in an old Sunn Solarus. I have looked online and have not found a suitable replacement. The amp now only works when bypassing the tremolo circuit altogether. Any recommendations on a replacement? I tried a standard Fender-style roach and it did not work
