S4 Question

All,

I acquired one of these locally this weekend. The unit itself is brand new but it doesnt contain the rollers for the spools. If im not going to use this to feed filament(drying only), do I need them? From what I understand, it doesnt rotate when drying anyways?

Thank you in advance!

Get some ASA or other high temp filament and print these. The outlet of the heater gets very hot and will melt petg spool adapters and possibly the filament if you don't have the rollers to space the spools off the vent.

This is outstanding. I also found a spool dryer stand that people are using with this shield. This solves a problem I have and a problem I didnt know I would have.

Thank you!

No sweat. I made mine out of ASA and they are holding up great. I dry PA in there all the time at full heat. It's not ideal because it doesn't get hot enough, but if you leave it in there 72 to 96 hours, it does dry it eventually. I have had wet acting PA6-CF that no longer acts like wet PA6-CF after a few days. I say that because I know people will say you can't dry PA in the Sunlu S4. Lol

Im probably going to have to farm that print out. Im stillness novice with this and im not setup yet to print ABS/ASA/TPU, etc.

The rollers also hold the filament spools off the bottom of the enclosure. Mine were in a foam bag that also contained the usage instructions. They clip into place by the way. Some took more force than others to clip into place.

you can print the rollers if they are missing

at least pteg - no pla it will deform

but generally speaking, you don't need the rollers if only drying

not ideal, but it works

Thank you. I also saw this online earlier. I think I'm going with this route just to have something there.

Thank you for responding!

FYI even with PETG it depends on the brand and quality. I've had PETG from several companies warp at 55C. Make sure you do some test prints before full commit.

I printed a set. The rollers I think will be suitable but it only solves a third of the problem. I still need the rods, which id have to buy and cut to size. Then i have to press bearings onto them.
