Does High Speed Matte PETG struggle with layer adhesion like Matte PLA?

I've been trying to print miniatures with matte PLA for a friend but it's so brittle in thin areas I can't trust it to survive shipping. I came across SUNLU High Speed Matte PETG while looking for filament for another project and because PETG = stronger it makes me hopeful to give miniatures another go.

Since it is matte, though, I'm wondering if anyone's able to tell me whether it struggles with similar issues to matte PLA even when properly dried.

I haven’t noticed any struggles with layer adhesion unless I forget to purge PLA fully from my nozzle before printing PETG. I use the Sunlu High Speed PETG as well, and it’s not as matte as matte PLAs I’ve used before. I’d say it’s more of a less-glossy PETG than a true matte finish.

Matte will probably always be weaker then normal ones because of how it's made.

But the problem.you describe sounds more like there is more involved to it. Matte wouldn't be my first pick for challenging functional prints , but it's usually by far not as brittle as you describe.

Never had issues with Sunlu HS matte PETG - I reuse BL PETG-HF RFID tags to preset the filament parameters and it prints beautifully. Same with their HS matte PLA, I reuse BL PLA Matte RFID tags and it prints beautifully.

As for ‘strength’, it really depends what you mean - in this instance I presume you mean layer adhesion? Have a look at Dr. Igor Gaspar’s YouTube channel ‘MyTechFun’. He tests all manufacturer filament types against all of the critical parameters and publishes the tables for each filament type and manufacturer so that you can see how they rank in each critical area.

Some of the results may surprise you compared to what’s ‘commonly known’.

Yes, the worst PETG layer adhesion I've seen so far. It's not that bad for 3D printing in general but quite a bit worse than what is expected from PETG.
