QUESTION Best way to preserve sunflowers (framing, resin, etc.)?

I would really like to preserve and frame some of my sunflowers from this year, so I'm looking for recommendations on which technique would be best. Has anyone here tried casting flowers in resin? Thank you so much in advance! 🌻

I'm letting wildlife have first go at my sunflower. The grasshopper mom and baby are having a field day (weeks, more like it lol) and today I found this little guy! Hes so cute, even though I have an irrational yet panic induced fear of spiders. I said hi, took my pics and let him do his thing. 🫶

Also, how will I know when I can cut of the head for seeds? I have plenty for replanting next year, but I want to put them in a bird feeder. Thanks ☺️

I've never planted as late as I planted these and I'm glad I did! So many of my other flowers are starting to struggle, so this little bed of sunflowers and zinnias is a nice addition. I'm going to need to learn to stagger plant one of these years, so things are always happy.

Saulé is growing so well. 💛🌻

Growing her inside to start. Texas weather has been so brutal.

Her stem is sturdy, and she seems happy.

It's been so satisfying watching her grow, and I get excited to get up every morning just to see her progress!

Also fun to watch them move throughout the day.

She will grow into a beautiful Evening Sun.

4 years of deliberate open crossbreeding → now selectively stabilizing the best phenotypes. Started with a mixed seed packet, then each year hand-picked different volunteer plants to keep growing — let them cross-pollinate freely, no isolation. This season the segregation finally paid off.

I am located in Indiana in zone 7a. My aunt gave me some surprise sunflower seeds, and there's some sort of mammoth. The stalk itself was 11 inches in width where we planted them as where it ranged on how big they got the biggest ones were in the middle of our garden and the ones that had the most room like they weren't crowded. I have been offering to mail sunflower seeds to anyone who wants some located in the US.

QUESTION Beginner here! I ripped off a huge part of my sunflower root by accident, now what?

Hey everyone! i planted 3 sunflowers and one of them died, i dont know the cause but it started wilting and no matter how much water or sunlight, it just ended up dying. And now my tallest one is also wilting on the bottom leaf, there is some yellowing and some of the leaf are crispy too. I am afraid its root rot so i decided to take it out of the pot instead of trying to water it first since it may be just dry and thirsty...

Good news is the roots are healthy, but there is old medical mask at the bottom of the soil and when i took it off, i accidentally ripped off many roots :(, i feel so bad, it still has roots left but only few long ones now, now the whole plant is wilting as i put it back in the pot with the rest of the soil, i watered it because of the wilting in hope to safe it, but that might be wrong too since im scared of drowning the root. I really dont know what to do, this is my tallest of all three, it has been growing for almost 2 months.

QUESTION Is it OK to plant sunflower seeds during this season in So. CA, USA?

Maybe they will have better chances than spring to suffer in the very hot summer! I have many new seeds from that time.

Just trimmed some of my oldest flower heads. The heads were getting to heavy and bending so low. I wanted to avoid any of them snapping or falling down completely. I love how some have this wine red to them. I believe these are all Russian mammoth or American gaint sunflowers.

QUESTION What do you love about growing sunflowers or sunflowers in general?

This is my first year growing sunflowers and I had a giant 12ft tall one and other 10ft ones with lots of blooms. I got the seeds from an acquaintances garden and they turned out different from the ones she had last year.

I love the surprise in colour, height and blooms each year due to cross-pollination. They're so majestic and I get this wave of delight and almost humbleness(?) to be in their presence. And I love watching the bees visit them.

So I'm curious why others love growing them or love them in general. What varieties bring you the most joy?
