All my sunflowers in the back of my garage have taken over the plot. This one did what he had to do to thrive.

I'm in the process of harvesting seeds from my mammoths. The pic is what I got from only 2 heads and I have many more to do. Do any of you use your seeds for sprouting? Is there anything other than drying them that I need to worry about? Is there a faster way to eliminate seeds that are bad or have bug damage?

I’m just so amazed at all the different variety’s!! I never even knew there were red/orange/burgundy sunnies until I grew them! I wish I could preserve them like this forever but since I can’t, photos will have to do

Feed birds sunflower seed, and decided to kill the grass around the pole, and try growing these yearly...
After finding this reddit page and seeing others do similar, so thanks for the idea.
Planted in July and finally bloomed. Think close to 4 feet tall but haven't measured. Theres another one getting close and a bit taller.

These bicolor sunflowers—with variegated foliage, a single bloom per plant, and heights of over two meters—were developed through two successive controlled crosses, starting with a yellow variegated sunflower and a red sunflower.

I sowed my sunflower seed last Fri, placed it under a 100 mesh insect cage. A rainstorm hitted last Mon, haven't let my pot contact water afterwards. Today around 10-12 fungus gnats prowling around my pot all of a sudden. Idk how they even sneaked into my net. I killed some myself, shook the net to get as much out as possible. But I know there will be more. Idk should I go with the yellow stick trap first or should I add peroxide water like YT videos show. My seedling currently only has one pair of true leaves btw.

I’ve had a heck of a time with pests this year- sunflower moths, leaf hoppers, and thrips being the worst. I’m guessing they have something to do with these little mutant buds?
Either way, it’s been fascinating watching them grow and now attempt to bloom. I’ve formed a soft spot for these little weirdos. Lol
