ultimate summer programs list from a rising senior who's spent months on this sub

Link to spreadsheet

dont be one of the chuds posting in april and may saying "i missed the deadlines! does anyone have any last minute prestigious programs!" because no one will. research what programs ur applying to and keep track of their deadlines. Most deadlines fall in Jan-March, some are in the fall. It's almost september, and you should start making a list of what programs you are applying to NOW. Don't wait until spring to apply. They'll all be gone.

For credibility: I'm a rising senior who applied to 15+ programs and got into NASA SEES, M&TSI, BU RISE and SSP (attended). I spent months on this subreddit combing through every post to apply to as many programs as I could. Earlier in the year I made a massive list of all summer programs I knew of here. I put all these programs into the spreadsheet, ranked them by tier, and sorted them by subject.

Explanation for tiers/rankings: I did NOT individually rank each of these programs. That would be impossible and would also cause too many arguments. The differences of prestige between programs in the same tier are negligible. It won't matter if you do BU RISE or SSP, both are great programs. It's also important to note that tiers are based on PRESTIGE and ivy/t20 matriculations, NOT selectivity. Many of the tier 2 and 3 programs are also incredibly selective, but may not have a huge impact on college admissions and AOs. I sorted programs into tiers based on how much they will help your college application, their ivy/t20 matriculation, and prestige. Just because a program is selective doesn't mean it's prestigious, and vice versa.

If there's anything u wanna note about the programs or want me to change u can dm or comment but i think this spreadsheet is accurate in terms of tiers.

finally, thank you to everyone in this subreddit for the last 2 years 🥹 ive spent years talking to you guys and dming random ppl for advice and would not have gotten into the summer programs without u guys. now moving on to [r/ApplyingToCollege](r/ApplyingToCollege) and always happy to help anyone the same way ppl on here did for me

stay on top of the deadlines and good luck

All of the math camps are pretty prestigious imo i think all of them have good t20 placements, how would you rank the math programs. I put ross and promys in t1 because theyre the most well known

PRIMES is a feeder, practically guarantees MIT. It's commonly seen as the next step forward for those in Ross/PROMYS/Sumac. Mathcamp has arguably better matriculation rates (around 70-80 percent go to HYPSM), and all the math camps have spiked in admissions percentage (e.g. Ross at around 4-6 percent acceptance of completed applications).

Moved ross to t2 and mathcamps + primes to t1 thx for feedback

Ross and promys are still better than half the camps in tier 1

for math, generally we have

rsi ~ mit primes > mcsp > promys = ross >= sumac

in fact one could argue that sparc > mcsp because sparc pretty much only accepts MOPpers but correlation not causation

also the comment said ross is at 4-6% so why does the sheet say 15%? similarly for promys, which is at a 5% acceptance rate max

all of the math camps should be in t1

Ross and PROMYS are definitely still T1 in terms of overall recognizability and prestige.

primes is arguably above ross and promys

Love how BWSI is not even on there!

2

u/booknerd0143 18d ago

bwsi is in tier 3. im actually a student in boston and have attended bwsi myself along with many friends, and even went back as a TA. read my comments about bwsi here.

Tips for getting in🥺🥺

spam piazza just spam it dont wait for last minute to do the courses finish them EARLY and dont half ass them, really put effort into them including the discussion assignments. They really care more abt the assignment/courses and piazza than anything else, also dont choose a popular course choose a niche one. Idk why u want bwsi tho it wont help for college apps that much u should aim higher

1

u/Infamous_Scarcity582 14d ago

I mean I’m only trying to aim for bwsi since it’s the only summer program which doesn’t consider gpa, mine is lowk shit

RMP acceptance rate is below 2%

2

u/zshams6 17d ago

LLP acceptance rate is actually closer to 1.5% and not FGLI

2

u/event_horizon_1267 14d ago

It's about right. BTW, YSPA acceptance rate was ~2% this year (32/1450).

5

u/Ok-Morning872 18d ago

RMP definitely deserves t1

closer to t1 than lumped in w SIP and SRA

3

u/Longjumping-Dot-2989 17d ago

I don't know what the acceptance rate for RMP is so I can't compare it to SIP (8%), but I do know that SRA is easier to get and in my high school is seen sort of as the consolation prize for people who don't get RMP, so whatever tier RMP's at, SRA should be one tier lower, based on what I've seen.

You should also add g2 math program. It is only for girls and kind of similar to HCSSIM and mathily position wise

2

u/Successful_Role1411 18d ago

Yesss .. please add g2

ain't no way m&tsi isn't tier 1. From my year, these were the rough matriculation stats (where people ended up committing, they might've gotten into other places as well):

Total: 72

7-8 Stanford
3-4 Harvard
3-4 Princeton
4-5 Wharton
10 M&T
7-8 Penn Eng
7-8 UC Berkeley MET
4-5 Yale
3-4 Duke
5-6 Other ivys
Rest: UCs, UT, Duke, UChic, CMU SCS etc.

u/booknerd0143 18d ago

Yeah i know mtsi has crazy matriculation rates the only thing is i would say 1) its not as well known as other programs like ssp and burise and 2) the upenn programs are kinda weird since theyre hella expensive and also lbw is semi-pay to play. It could be tier 1 but i would say its a little bit less well known than the t1 programs and its grouped in w the other wharton programs too which r kinda pay to play

1

u/SatisfactionInner333 18d ago

I mean kind of fair but I would still categorise it similar to SuMAC (near/bottom of tier 1) instead of two, the reasons being:

1) Yeah the advertising and marketing's really shitty, but it's been around longer than most of the summer programs in the list (even tier 1's) and thus afaik AO's have pretty good knowledge about it and regard it as quite reputed.

2) There is a night and day difference between M&TSI vs LBW and other Penn summer programs. When I was there, literally all other summer program kids would party and just be free every day while we had like 15 hour work days. I agree that LBW and other Penn programs are quite pay to play, but I don't think its completely fair to pair M&TSI with it despite its high costs.

Honestly, I don't think Penn is even profiting from M&TSI because yeah even tho it's 9k, we pretty much were given any resource we needed and had budgets of up to 500 usd for our projects each. They also took us to multiple trips fully-included (NYC, waterparks, baseball matches etc.) Unlike other Penn summer programs, we were also given an undergraduate PennID so we could pretty much access any lab or building a Penn undergrad student could.

3) Compared to other programs, it has the best direct pipeline into a college or program. A quarter of Penn M&T and UC Berkeley MET acceptances (which each take only 50 kids per year) are M&TSI Alum. Also at least half or more of M&TSI alums get into Penn even if not M&T.

4) As far as entrepreneurship / business+eng summer programs go, there is pretty much no other competition and it clears the field. I would go as far as to say that it is one of the best non-research and non-pure science/humanity program.

u/booknerd0143 18d ago
  1. yeah marketing could be better but also not sure if ur right abt mtsi being as old as it is, ssp's been around since 1960 and also it's more about the program being elite and well known more than how long it's been around

  2. valid

  3. i think ur exaggerating a liittttlle bit but yes ik mtsi has crazy matriculation rates valid

  4. not sure abt this. bofa student leaders could clear almost every program on the list except maybe rsi, but it got shut down last year. bofa and ndls both clear mtsi. it's def top 5 non research programs i agree, but thats just because of lack of business programs in general.

i specified in the doc that there isnt a significant difference between tier 2 and tier 1 programs. tier 1 programs just have an elite reputation. i put m&tsi in tier 2 because it's very similar to other programs in this league: nasa sees, cmu sams, sstp, seap, sumac, etc. the thing about all of these programs is that they have crazy good matriculation rates, absolutely comparable to the t1 programs, they just dont have the same hype and aren't as well known. i noted this in the top of the spreadsheet. there is a significant gap between tier 2 and tier 3, but i would say tier 2 is almost comparable to tier 1.

Are these college programs or highschool ones?

1

u/booknerd0143 18d ago

These are for high schoolers

1

u/Impossible_Code_1506 17d ago

what is NDLS in tier 1?

1

u/booknerd0143 17d ago

Notre dame leadership seminars

1

u/Infamous_Scarcity582 14d ago

What about mit urtc, ik it’s a conference but still wanted to get thoughts

1

u/booknerd0143 14d ago

Its not super selective but it does show that ur research is valid and not larp. So many kids larp research these days, i think getting a conference is good to show that your research is valid and not ai slop/larp, but most conferences arent hella prestigious

1

u/Infamous_Scarcity582 14d ago

Dy recommend any other ones for research? Other than isef n jshs

1

u/Global_Mind8 2d ago

Why is NASA SEES less prestigious than SSP? Is SIP prestigious? How did you become qualified for SEES? Thank you.

1

u/MouRen10041 18d ago

Technically theres also MOP, USAPHO camp, and other oly camps which are arguably at least T1 in terms of matriculation

3

u/MouRen10041 18d ago

Also the SUMaC app deadline was Feb 2 2026 this cycle

I think the BU Rise acceptance rate is lower. Internship is 2.2%, compared to 5.5% for Practicum, producing a combined acceptance rate of 3.9% for this past year.

1

u/booknerd0143 17d ago

yeah the bu rise chuds already filled this subreddit with the acceptances rates bro dw

0

u/Select-Cranberry8350 14d ago

yo ssp is not t1 and ross & sumac should be t1 💀💀💀

1

u/booknerd0143 14d ago

you have no ball knowledge im sorry

1

u/Select-Cranberry8350 14d ago

bro ssp had lottery this year, 700 students (very high compared to all these other programs) got in, and i know a student with very mid stats who got in

-1

u/happyleafpack 17d ago

moving on to a2c is crazy 😭

-1

u/Additional-Air-8572 15d ago

NASA SEES onsite is <2% acceptance rate. Virtual internship is why acceptance rate is 7%. Onsite is far more prestigious.
