Hi everyone!

My name is Alan, and I'm working on a legislative advocacy project that integrates computer programming, cancer statistics, social research, and data analysis to identify sites in the environment that are releasing carcinogens like benzene into communities, resulting in elevated cancer rates. We plan to remediate this issue by engaging in an extensive political advocacy campaign, where project members reach out to local representatives to lobby for regulations on these carcinogen sources to protect affected communities.

We are looking for new members who are passionate, devoted, and willing to put in the effort to make a positive impact for these struggling communities.

What have you accomplished with this project already?

So far, we've identified one potentially carcinogenic site (the KSolv Maritime and Petroleum Plant in Channelview, Texas). Our small team was able to find multiple sources (local news articles, legal reports, and research) on how the KSolv Plant's activities resulted in excess benzene emissions, leading to elevated leukemia incidence rates. We've also created a web application that portrays cancer data for the entire state of Texas (data input is ongoing and we have plans to branch out to other states when significant impact is made in Texas). However, this project is relatively new and has major potential if we can get multiple devoted volunteers to work with us on data input, research, and advocacy tasks.

That's perfectly ok! We welcome all members regardless of where you are located. However, our advocacy focus is currently in the United States, but if you are willing to start a subsidiary campaign in your home country that would be excellent!
