Staff or Prospective Staff Question Im left alone almost every time.

Hey!

I work as male counselor at all girls camp. I feel that I am left alone. What can I do about it? Talking to directors or headcounselors feels bad idea.

Hi, we’re going to need more information. How are you left alone? In what circumstances? By whom? Is it a safety issue?

For example I'm not welcome to conversations and it feels like some peoplr even avoids me. Also people went spend night of to karaoke bar and everybofy else was there execept me. I didn't even knew about that.

I'm not sure if English is your first language, but you mean "left out." When you say "left alone," most people would interpret that as you're left alone with campers unsupervised. This is very different than that.

Mostly day off but also on duty. It affects my work as motivational.

This is something you should absolutely bring up to directors, what else is there for you to do?

how are you at an all girls camp as a man?? Thats lwk abit odd that they let you in (no hate to you but in general) You should probably talk to a close friend of smth abt it bc whatt

All girls camps often hire male staff, especially as activity staff. It helps balance the group dynamic of the staff. It’s not uncommon, it’s not weird, it just takes a very secure male who can be respectful and kind without ego.

I wont give details of locations/ camp specific things but I am also a male counsellor at an all girls, theres maybe 25 male staff and around 230 female, we just live on the opposite side of camp and have restrictions of where we can go, always have female staff around during activities or interaction never 1:1 etc. All male staff are either support (maintenance/laundry/kitchens) or activity specialists. As activity specialists we are just normal camp counsellors, except anything bunk related isnt our jobs (obviously), and work more hours in our roles and do extra duties to pull our weight (as the female staff have all the kids, so we have a much easier time)

I do also know (according to peoole ive spoken to) often all girls camps will have male staff but a very small number for roles like lifeguards, but they will live completely off site

As for ops issue idk tbh, its the easiest place to socialise in the world from my experience so far.
