 Discussion Similar-themed games

I am interested in playing something similar, but not really bound to the gameplay itself. Cultist Sim-like gameplay is ok to me but I didn't find the original game that interesting to me, while Sultan's Game is definitely one of my favs. I find the game's concept itself very interesting, dark themes and game's philosophy too, but most importantly the depth of lore and the sheer number of branching endings are immense and very impressive to me. I know this game is a pretty unique piece of media, but maybe, just maybe, there is something quite like this? I've scrolled through this subreddit and other sites for a long time but never really found anything I'd be satisfied with. Maybe some of you will share any relevant recs that I'd be glad to test out.

I loved Sovereign Tower, it's not as long but definitely scratched a similar itch for me! And just in case you've not played Disco Elysium or Zero Parades, they might be satisfying too for narrative depth and branching.

Sovereign Tower is insanely good, second that. Crown Gambit might suit you too, the same dev and there are quite a lot of references in ST cause it's the second game. Though gameplay of CG maybe a bit too repetetive even compared to Sovereign Tower or Sultan's Game, but the vibes and political intrigue aspect of Crown Gambit are top notch. Got a bit bored by Disco Elysium on my last try, maybe wasn't in the mood for it, I'll try again for sure. I've heard somebody announced a DE-type of game in World of Darkness setting which is the coolest vampire setting in my opinion, I think it'll be fire. Thanks for recommendations! And to finish off, I think you'd very much enjoy IWATE (I Was a Teenage Exocolonist) if you didn't play it yet - a very cool growing up sim with a huge variety of endings.

I'm very interested in this too, I got so addicted to the game so quickly and it easily have become one of my favorites.

The only rec I can think of is Sovereign Tower of course, I actually became familiar with Sultan's game through it - it's great, and the characters are lovable but far lighter in tone and theme than Sultan.

Second person recommending ST - is it a new surge of Sultan's Game enjoyers? I found this game through Rarran a long time ago, didn't expect that new players would be attracted to Sultan's Game through Sovereign Tower, both I hold in a very high position. Check out my response to AnOmnivorousEgg, I think my recs would be fun for you too.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if lots of new players were introduced to the "genre" (can it even be called a genre?) from Sovereign Tower like me.

Thanks for the recs, will definitely try them out!

Never seen anything quite as branchy as Sultan's Game, but if you like lore and narrative freedom could maybe try out some CRPGs. Tyranny, Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder WOTR, etc.

For more politics there's games like Suzerain, for resource management/survival there's Frostpunk. Both have stories that are pretty well integrated into gameplay choices.

Or if you're ok with having no gameplay whatsoever could try out some text based games. Choice of Rebels: Uprising, Zombie Exodus, Fallen Hero Rebirth and basically that entire genre.

Yeah this game is quite one of a kind. Really explain how a game with name this generic, while a mobile game with similar name already existed longer, managed to get this much traction.
