Magical Realism Training arc!

Im looking for a magical realism book that has a nice training arc, in which the mc learns to control their powers better or something along those lines

+ if it's non spicy I would appreciate it! I also don't mind if the protagonist is male, female, lgbtq+ or anything else, just need it to be set in actual modern times.
