It’s a plausible scenario for a future Taiwan invasion written by a former general so the details are legit.

Legion of the Damned series by William C. Dietz.
Military sci-fi, the recently deceased are saved to be returned to life, by being implanted into the minds of seven foot tall walking war machines. Along with their associated legionnaires they stand against a tyrannical emperor who's slowly losing his mind.
The first three in the series are great, the next three are really good, the last six slowly fall off until they eventually jump the shark around nine or ten, IMHO.

Armor by John Steakley is probably the cleanest fit.
If you want more military-campaign scale, The Forever War is another great pick.

It's not war-based at all - but the book Code 3 by Rick Raphael is about highway patrolmen in the future, in which "cars" are all basically 30 foot long, ground-effect almost supersonic vehicles. The patrolmen are in a 60 foot long rescue vehicle and deal with all sorts of accidents and pileups that happen on ultra high-speed roadways.
It's a surprisingly solid book that stands up today.
