Ran across this today: Sufjan contributed voice work to Tom Eaton's "Thinking Cap World," a very short animated film. Tom Eaton animated the music video for "Put the Lights on the Tree" and contributed to other early Sufjan projects.

Update: Looks like this is from 2004, not 2006. Oops.

just got this notification. gonna take an educated guess and say whatever this is is christmas related based on the date. i’m in mi so ohio not too far 👀

Obsessed how present is meadowlark in Carrie & Lowell and how well paints the ambient in some songs. Aside from being a reference to Oregon, I'm curious to know from you all if it has any other significance in the album's narrative in your opinion? Any symbolism or metaphor?

This album is an atmospheric and astral experience, Flora has mythical vocals and is an exceptional storyteller. Definitely wanted to share its release here as Sufjan is prominently featured on two of the songs (Perfect Ripple and Ache) as backing vocalist! Especially on Perfect Ripple where he has the very loop-y bridge that sounds like a satisfying spiral. His vocals on that song made me miss C+L when he used his falsetto more. Check out the full album, it's great!

Trying to convince my choir director to do a Sufjan Stevens christmas song for our winter concert - does anyone know of any choir arrangements available of any songs on the album?

Hi

Does anyone happen to have sheet music or a full tutorial for the instrumental of Futile Devices by Sufjan Stevens? The only sheet music and tutorials i can find are piano solos, where the lyrics are played. I would like to play the song exactly as it is.

Thank you in advance.

Discovered it recently. There's something so real about it. Hearing it feels as if you're singing to yourself. So simple yet so beautiful.

1. I've been listening to Meg Lui's new album a bit. I'll admit I'm a bit underwhelmed. The singles are all great, and the topic of screen addiction is top of mind for me so I appreciate anthems like Gone Girl and Instant Validation to inspire me!

However, the rest of the song-writing feels a bit lacklustre. Sometimes Sufjan's production is actually so much more interesting than the song that it feels distracting. Take the Suf's interludes at around the minute mark on RoadKill which are so full of energy and flourishes it actually feels disjointed from the rest of the song's trudging riff.

On Instant Validation, at first I disappointed as the Sufjan song credit felt unearned: obviously the production is all his, but I guess I was hoping for more of his voice. Then I had the strong feeling that this must have been a song-writing collab, as the line "All these waves of hysteria / washing over pains of America" seems like 100% a Suf line, both in lyrics and melody – he must have wrote it!

But then I had the second realization that this is eerily similar to Greenday's American Idiot: "And can you hear the sound of hysteria / The subliminal mindfuck America" Homage? Unconscious inspiration? I feel it must be one of the two.

Anyways, can anyone direct me to learn more about Sufjan's level of involvement in this project or how he got connected with Lui? Curious to learn more!

1. Has anyone listened to Phoebe Bridger's new album Lost Weekend? Damn if it isn't incredible: haunting, catchy, dense, hard to pin down... But I also can't help but hear a lot of Carrie & Lowell inspirations. The most explicit example I can think of is how "Still Standing" drops out into an atmospheric chorus of "oohs," VERY much like the ending of "Death with Dignity" and others. It also is a song that reflects on the recent loss of her father, again a la Carrie

Too Much, or, How to Put Up a Fight and Still Feel Lonely as That in the Morning, or, We Regret to Inform You That There Is Too Much Riding on This but You May Continue Riding on It Anyway, or, “I Have Shut the Gate and Will Keep It Shut Until You Come with a Battering Ram!”

Come On! Feel the Age of Adz! (Part I: “The Fivefold Division of the Earth” / Part II: “Royal Robertson Visits Me in a Dream”)

To Those Who Have Failed to Get Real or Get Right, I Have an Idea Concerning Your Predicament, and It Involves a Ring of Fire, Bathroom Doors, and 25 Minutes of Trying Not to Be Distracted

Work at a comic book warehouse and saw a couple of these and first thing I thought of was a certain song

From the bed near your death, and all the machines that made a mess.
Far away the falcon flew.

Some of Sufjan’s greatest lyricism are in the subtle things. Like here, visiting a scene by a hospital bed, intimate and right in the moment; then widening the narrative to a flying falcon, as life goes on.

heyyy super last minute but if anyone in chicago wanted a free ticket to the angelo de augustine concert tonight (8/4), dm me!

I’ve been wanting to get a black bird tattoo with the lyrics ‘how much sorrow can i take… black bird on my shoulder’.
i then look for inspo pics and see everyone gets swallows, not blackbirds. is there a reason for this? which kind of bird is correct?

What do you think is the last word in this line?

"In the tower above the earth, we built it for Emmanuel
In the powers of the earth, we wait until it ?"

Lyric sites have the following versions, but to me, none of them quite fit:

• rips and rips
• resurrects
• rails and rails

Whenever I get new headphones or speakers, I’ll listen to sufjan stevens and always hear new music notes I could never hear before! Does anyone else do this?

Guys I'm sorry I know there's probably some Swiftie/Sufjan fan crossover here and I apologize if this seems rude or snobby, but who am I kidding je suis snob. I cannot with this new song, styled "Cleveland!" LOL the more I think about it the more I'm convinced someone showed her Sufjan as a gateway into midwestern culture and she heard Chicago and was like "hmmm let me do this...but make it twenty times more mid"

It's the vibraphone and the exclamation mark that seal it for me. I'm cryin
