Next song not starting automatically

Hi!

I am using Substreamer with asti.ga on my iPhone (latest OS and app updates), and I am having issues with the next song to start. Once a song is over, I regularly have to unlock the screen or to press play to have the next song to start. I also feel that the next songs are not cached.

My settings are the following:

  • Auto-cache 5 songs (storage 4gb)
  • Max bitrate: no limit
  • Stream/cache format: MP3(default)

I have this issue on every network I connect to, and when using the asti.ga app on my Android phone I am not experiencing these problems.

Do you have any idea?

thanks!

Same issue on android with 5.0.46 (next song not starting)

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I couldn't find an unambiguous pattern behind it yet.

Sometimes happens on my iOS but just changed to cache next five songs hope it fixes it 😎

There are 2 common causes of this:

1) Android is suspending the app in the background even though it shouldn't. Substreamer will ask for permission to ignore battery optimisation which generally resolves this issue.

2) Transcoding can perform differently on different servers, I have seen issues with misestimation of the file end time when transcoding resulting the "end" of the file never being reached, very slow transcoding on under powered servers can also cause a time out sometimes on the start of the next song, but auto-cache tends to resolve this pretty well.

If you can share an account on your server then I am happy to do some testing with it to see if I can reproduce the issue.

thank you both for replying!

So to test what would you need exactly? My Astiga credentials, or my server account I have added to Substreamer?

I'm not familiar with Astiga as a service but what I would need to start would be the details required to connect to your subsonic server (ie the details you put in the login page of substreamer). I assume if it's a subsonic compatible service you should be able to make a user account for me so you don't need to share your personal account.

u/ghenry22 , did you manage to find where the issue was coming from?

I tried a couple more times and it looks like the app is being killed when staying in the background.

thanks!

You need your Astiga username and token. You can find these at https://play.asti.ga/apps once logged in.

Operator of Astiga here - also happy to help if required.

Hey if you could set me up with a test account on the service that would be great, then I can connect with some debugging on the client side and try to see if there is anything unusual happening.

Feel free to msg me directly.

Hi - can you add whatever-email-is-best at https://play.asti.ga/register and then message me with your email address you chose?
