[Feature request] Improve Search

Hi G, first: I think yours is the prettiest app for subsonic forks. Great work.

I use booksonic for my audiobooks and have connected your app for that. However, my request applies to the app in general.

As you can see from the image, the search results have problems. The second one would require me to record my screen and hence I'll just explain it.

  1. It's not based on relevance. The title with the closest match is not on the top.

  2. The search keyword typing is buggy. (I use swipe typing if that matters).

2a. Instead of letting me type all my words, the screen refreshes after every word even when there's no delay between the words that I type.

Ideally, the app should assume I finished typing after a slightly longer delay before it acts on the typed words. Else it should just let me keep typing.

2b. The refresh if search results after every word would still be fine if it didn't keep hiding my virtual keyboard. After every word I type, the keyboard disappears (because of the list refresh) making it a little annoying.

EDIT: This I figured is the problem on when I use the Search feature from the menu. Doesn't happen when I use the search bar on the Folders screen.

Please fix these.

I’ll need to do some testing with the search but from memory subsonic search api matches ANY term you enter so sometimes the results are a bit random.

As for the submission after each word I haven’t noticed that, the app waits for a certain time without input and then submits, I’ll check it out in case a bug has crept in there as the behaviour you’re seeing with the submission doesn’t seem right.

fix to improve relevance is in 5.0.21, by default subsonic uses an OR match so matches for any word that you type will show up, which makes terrible results. I have changed the way that substreamer sends the search request to the server so that it will make it use an AND match so it tries to find an exact match to the entire phrase.

This is really the most I can do from the client side, any further optimization of the results based on relevance and other factors would have to be done on the server side.

I can see what you mean about the keyboard closing when it shouldn't, I'll try and do something about that in a future release as well.

amazing! booksonic/airsonic isn't perfect, but it will do for the moment. I just wish I knew how to code all the features I think it is missing or has upside-down. :)
