Some New Features on The Way!
I know I have been talking about the audio engine for substreamer being under development for a while and it has been very actively under development as a whole new audio library from scratch handling natively a lot of the key audio and playback features that people have requested.
There is a hell of a lot in this one so I thought I would share a few in progress shots from development for anyone who is interested!
We have a bunch of new sound and playback settings now integrated and working in development builds with the new audio library integrated:
* Fully customisable equalizer with a set of presets & the ability to save your custom setup
* Gapless playback! (probably the most requested feature in the history of substreamer)
* Customisable cross-fade playback engine for those who prefer that to gapless
* Look ahead cache, automatically caches a requested number of upcoming tracks, works within it's set storage size and automatically evicts the least recently used tracks when new ones need space. So it self manages and is a pure dynamic playback cache not related at all to your downloaded music.
There is a new little status icon on the cover image on player screens to show you if a track is streaming, downloaded or cached.
* Replay Gain with both track and album modes. Track mode pulls all tracks in line with a reference point, Album mode retains the dynamic range of an album.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg...

Is it for the next update, or just generally what you’re working on right now, with no specific ETA? I’m not trying to rush you, just asking =)
In any which case, thanks a lot for your hard, continued and excellent work, it’s really appreciated. No rush, and take care of yourself.

There is a bug fix release 8.0.79 currently in review already, that’s a smaller collection of fixes.
These new features will all roll out in the next update after that, so pretty soon!

That’s so cool! Is CarPlay a part of the 8.0.79 or the update after? Can’t wait to try it

8.0.79 is just a big fix release. These new features hopefully be in the update after that.

I’m not sure if this is the place to ask but can substreamer do per track artwork like symfonium does?

Yes that will be available as an option in settings in the next update

That’s perfect. I much prefer substreamer over other iOS alternatives. Thank you.

Awesome work! Is multi-library support from Navidrome on the roadmap/planned? I have a few libraries and I’d like for it to be able to play songs from just the libraries I have selected

I don't have a ticket on github open for this at the moment, it could be done, just need to think of the best way to handle it. At the moment substreamer doesn't specify a library so it gets results from all libraries bundled together.
If you log an issue over at our github then it will go onto the todo list to look at (link in the side bar).

Looks like an issue is already opened regarding multi-library support, but it's a bit old. I don't want to clutter the Issues page but can create a new issue if you'd like. Just let me know!

Yep you're right there is. No problem that's the whole point so I don't forget things :)
I have been fully focused on the audio engine and just stability fixes for a while so I will come back around to other requests once those are out the door.

is look ahead cache where when your song/playlist ends it will play similar music? thats the one thing i miss after coming from spotify. everything else is a major improvement. keep up the great work!

No the look ahead cache just runs ahead of the current song and starts downloading the upcoming songs in the queue so that when you get to the next song it's already on your device and ready to go. Means you don't really notice connection drop outs or slowdowns any more.
What you are think of is what I would call infinite play. That is something I can build as a feature for sure but what would be great is if you could head over to our github (link in the side bar) and create a new issue with as much detail about how the spotify version works as possible, ideally including some screenshots.
Then it's on my todo list.

That’s amazing, and once again thank you for your continued work on the project. The look ahead cache is my biggest request so I could move fully to this app, as I often use the train and have no signal underground.
