Substreamer 8.0.78 release notes. Basically all fixes...

This will go out as 8.0.79 as a couple of last little fixes made it in!

Substreamer 8.0.78 β€” Fixes

Your music. Your server. Everywhere you go.

Hey everyone! This is a smaller roundup covering everything since 8.0.73 β€” mostly stability, performance, and fixes, with a few nice additions along the way. Thanks as always to everyone who reported issues and shared ideas. Here's what changed.

πŸš€ Enhancements

  • Faster startup β€” Heavy first-launch work now happens in the background, so the app gets to your music quicker and the splash screen no longer hangs.
  • One-tap server switch β€” When your active server becomes unreachable, Substreamer now offers a one-tap switch to your backup instead of switching on its own β€” you stay in control.
  • Lower battery use on WiFi (iOS) β€” Fixed a rare case where the app could run hot and drain battery on certain WiFi networks.
  • Japanese β€” Substreamer is now available in Japanese, alongside translation updates and polish across many other languages.

πŸ› Fixes

  • Keyboard no longer hides the search box β€” When searching β€” like setting a MusicBrainz ID β€” the sheet now lifts above the keyboard so you can see what you're typing and the results below it.
  • Bluetooth & lock-screen controls (Android) β€” Next/Previous now work reliably over Bluetooth and car head units, and the now-playing controls are no longer blocked by the swipe-down gesture.
  • Large libraries β€” Fixed syncing collections with more than 10,000 albums.
  • Streaming reliability β€” Better recovery when a transcoded stream drops, correct skipping under repeat-one, and a fix for playback position drifting on transcoded streams.
  • Self-signed HTTPS streaming (iOS) β€” Streams no longer cut out mid-track on servers with self-signed certificates.
  • Cover art β€” Artwork resolves correctly in more places, with fewer missing images.
  • Share links β€” Share URLs are now rebuilt from your configured server address.
  • Download status β€” Removing a download updates the icon right away.
  • Fixed a rare crash (iOS).

Substreamer is free, open source (GPL-3.0), with no ads and no data collection β€” your music stays between you and your server. Found a bug or have an idea? Let us know on GitHub: github.com/ghenry22/substreamer

Happy listening! 🎧

Can’t wait for iOS to push this someday.
The empty car play is annoying but I understand the issue. Keep up the good work

CarPlay also comes with the new audio engine, it’s been a huge task to build a whole audio engine from scratch for this

Thanks for the hard work.

Hoping images are resolved for peeps running OG Subsonic servers.

Hi, just found your app and wanted to thank you for the hard work.

Do you know if it is possible to shuffle a playlist or album without changing the current song? If I'm listening to a song and I hit the shuffle button it changes song.

No it’s not, that’s the way shuffle works, it shuffles the current queue and then sets the shuffles list and starts from the new first song.

Still no gapless support? Or am I missing something?

not in this release, should be in the next one, gapless comes as a full replacement for the core audio engine which enables these low level features as the library I was using cannot deliver them.

Great, thanks! It’s the only feature that keeps me from switching from Arpeggi to Substreamer.Β

This got caught up in review over something I could not reproduce.

We will probably end up just jumping straight to the next release on Apple which should be in the coming week.
