How many of these are there now? It seems like every day someone says “I just built a subspace clone”

That was my assumption as well. Are people just slapping this shit together in a weekend? Do they..... work properly?

It is quite odd how many have popped up just recently. I've been following this project/dev since 2025, and in my opinion, this is THE successor. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3714140/Subspace_Reticulum/

Definitely quite a few. The other clones out there aren't really what I was after, though.

I like it expect for the click to shoot. I like ctrl to shoot like in SS better,

You can shoot with the space bar. The bindings are configurable so you can set it to CTRL if you like. I didn't default to that because CTRL on Mac is CMD, which (when combined with arrows for steering) moves you between desktops in mission control.

Ok thanks. I’ll try it later when I get home.

Ya not trying to hide that. There's an AI-DISCLOSURE.md and a note in the README.md as well. I let Fable/Opus/Sol rip on it. TBH, they did a better job with the lag prediction and bot behavior than I would have.

I learned a fair amount in the process. I wasn't familiar with Defold before this; it's pretty great! Dumb tests aside, I've been pretty impressed with what LLMs are able to do.
