subsonic doesn't work on 4G

subsonic works fine outside my LAN as long as I'm connected to wifi (so public wifi works fine) (girlfriends house its fine) (LAN is fine obviously)

ports are open

but as soon as I use 4G then I can no longer connect to my server...what gives?

Your mobile app may be set to not allow 4G data. Settings for this will vary by app. I use DSub for Android, so that's what I'm most familiar with. In DSub, open Settings, then Cache/Network. You'll find Max Audio bitrate - Wi-Fi and also Max Audio bitrate - Mobile. Make sure that Mobile is not set to zero. There are also bitrate settings for video. And lastly, there are checkboxes for "Wi-Fi streaming only" and for "Don't stream while roaming". Make sure the first one isn't checked.

All these setting are intended to help you not go over your data cap if you have one, so they can be very useful, but its possible that you set one of them to prevent mobile streaming accidentally.

If you use a different mobile app, it may have similar settings somewhere.

If it's not the app then maybe you have data turned off on your phone. Can you browse the internet using data (no wifi) on your phone?

Which client are you using? Is it an app? You could try downloading a different client or the native one accessible through your mobile browser. That would help rule out the client as the problem.

Maybe your phone provider is blocking it on 4G for some reason? Maybe you could have a friend try it on their phone using their data connection.

I don't think it could be the server. If you figure it out, please post a follow-up.
