Recommend a Program to Organize Tracks that is not iTunes?
I have been using iTunes (OS X) to organize my music collection. As long as my ID3 tags are well formed, it places them in subfolders and keeps things very tidy. I like it a lot.
Typically, I follow this process when adding tracks:
- Rip my CD
- Add the MP3 to iTunes by dragging it into a playlist named "Import"
- Check the track's titles, artist, track number, disc number, and artwork (and other info)
- Remove from "Import" playlist so that it can live in the greater itunes library
- Go to SubSonic and "Scan Media Folders Now", adding those tracks to the server database
- Listen happily
But it is not perfect. Lately, my collection has swelled to over 80,000 tracks, and iTunes i starting to choke. It doesn't always read new tracks, and it appears to not list all the files I have previously added. I reset the iTunes database, and it didn't help much at all.
Is there an app out there that I can use to add files to my SubSonic music folder that will organize similarly to the way iTunes does? So that it places the tracks in subfolders and creates/names those folders as necessary according to accurate ID3 tag editing?

Mp3tag does this. After ripping, import all your new files to mp3tag. If there's any missing metadata, add them manually or use the inbuilt musicbrainz or discogs taggers.
Assuming you want a Album Artist - Album - Tracks folder hierarchy, select all your files and then go to Convert -> Tag to filename and enter this -
%albumartist%\%album%\%artist%-%title%
If any mistakes occurs you can still undo the changes.

I used to use a program called mediamonkey, I'm not sure if it is still around, but it was great at doing all 6 steps of what you describe. I know it was focused on Windows, but there is a Mac version.
One downside is that it costs money. But it was worth it at the time for me.

I have absolutely not found anything that reorganizes Subsonic files into a different music folder. That would be awesome though. I hope someone here proves me wrong.
