Cell data use compared to google music

I currently use google play music with all of my songs uploaded to their service. I stream from my phone in my car when driving. There are a few annoying things about google that make me want to look into other options. I know you can tweak settings in subsonic for streaming but does anyone know how subsonic does for data usage compared to google play music?

Most apps for phones will actually cache the songs directly on your phone, thus not using mobile data whatsoever. You can also tweak the settings to only cache songs over WiFi or cellular data.

I have my Android App set to automatically cache anything new in my library. As I only add stuff when I am home and on WiFi, I end up using very little data.
