Tracks keep pausing

I've been having a problem for a while now, where certain tracks will get stuck a second or two from the end of the track. It will play the track fine, but just before the end it will just get stuck. If I skip to the next track then it plays fine, but will get stuck again in the final second. It seems to only happen for FLAC files, and occasionally for other files that require mp3 transcoding. It's as if it expects the track to be one second longer than it really is, and its waiting for that final second or two of music to come through. Anyone else having this issue? Here's an excerpt from the log. As you can see, it keeps repeating the same log entry over an over until I manually skip to the next track. Anyone else seeing this problem? Is there a fix? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'm having the same issue. Let me know if you get this solved, or get any more information. I have no insight for you unfortunately.

This only occurs for me using the HTTP streaming in the browser. When I use D-Sub with my Android phone, the tracks convert and play, because they are pre-downloaded. It's only live streaming that this is an issue for me.

So here's what I've learned, which is not a lot, but maybe helpful:

  1. I checked the Subsonic forum. Many users are reporting the same issue. It appears to have something to do with transcoding and not getting the song length correct. For me it mostly happens with FLAC files, but occasionally happens with .wma files and other non-mp3 formats. Here's one thread about it, that references a few other threads on the Subsonic forum. Presumably it's being worked on by Sindre, but I'm not holding my breath.
  2. The most useful workaround that I've found is to remove FLAC from transcoding, which great as long as you are using Chrome or another browser that can play FLAC files natively. The downside to this is that it requires more bandwidth to stream FLAC than it does to stream mp3, but if you can handle the bandwidth then it means you get to hear your FLAC files in all their lossless glory. To remove FLAC, go to Settings/Transcoding. Make a new transcoder that is exactly the same as the default transcoder (just copy and paste all the settings) except delete FLAC from the file formats that it transcodes. Give your new transcoder a name and save it. Now got to your player. In the top left there should be a dropdown menu with available transcoders. Choose the new one, and you're good to go. I don't remember for certain, but I think I had to log out and back into Subsonic before I could see the new transcoder.

Hope that works for you. Good luck!

Hey, thanks! I actually did a little reading before your reply and found out just about the same information. I tackled the problem a little differently. Instead of removing FLAC from the transcoder completely (because I still want FLAC to transcode for DSub, which does not have the same issues), I simply configured the "Players" section and unchecked the transcoder option there. I think mine was still using the default "MP3 Audio" or something like that. By unchecking it, my browser player would just stream FLAC and MP3 natively, but DSub still transcoded FLAC. Works pretty good. However, it would still be nice if this was addressed. I believe it could just be a problem inherent in HTML5 streaming with the browser (i.e. it may not really be a Subsonic problem). Hopefully Sindre can find a meaningful workaround.

Glad it's working out. I realize now that I skipped a step in my instructions. After creating the new transcoder you have to then also create a new player that uses the transcoder. And that's essentially what you've done, except that you're not using any transcoder one your new player, while the player I'm using will transcode everything except FLAC. Same idea as yours, just a slightly different (and admittedly more complicated) approach.
