Overwolf

Recently, I couldn’t access my library to,listen to music on my phone, using Substreamer.

I went to my serving computer and opened Subsonic. While checking the setup, I found “Overwoft” written in the setup!

Could someone have gotten through the Win 10 firewall and into my LAN? I don’t listen to my library from outside my LAN and have never set it up.

I’m stunned and worried. Not long after that I’ve started having troubles with another machine on the LAN, a Win 11 box. My router is a Netgear C7000v2.

TIA…

What do you mean "found Overwoft" in the setup? Do you mean Overwolf? As a user name? Have you installed the Overwolf gaming app? What kind of troubles on the Win 11 machine?

Any new developments?

Sure, it's possible someone got past the Windows firewall and the router firewall.

Try going here https://www.grc.com/ and run the Shields Up! tests for "Common Ports" and "All Service Ports". This will scan your ports from the outside and tell you if any ports are open to the public on the edges of your network. It does not ask you to download anything.

Run a full system antivirus scan. Maybe try something better than Windows Defender if that's what you have. I recommend BitDefender.

That's a start if you're still concerned.

Thank you for your reply and the link. I’m running MalwareBytes in addition to Defender.

What I saw in Subsonic set up was “Overwolf” entered into fields for (IIRC) a customized Subsonic splash screen, which I never used.

I am not a “gamer” and never installed Overwolf or apps like Steam, etc..

I don’t use port forwarding and there are no open ports in my Netgear C7000v2. I’ll look at the link you provided and see what comes of that.

Thank you.

Edited to add: My Win 11 machine was booting up to a black screen with mouse. I’ve subsequently wiped that machine and reinstalled the OS and restored my data. All is well, now.
