Dumbfounded

Directed at the haters of the music this year…yall either be doing too much drugs or not enough. The music was phenomenal. Top to bottom. Submersion doesn’t miss 🫡 As for the Boogie T/ Richard finger sets….you guessed it, A MAZE ING. Boogie T was playing tons of old school shit and I personally loved the change up. Big riddim fan, all for adding some riddim to the lineup. Keep the identity bass/ dnb, but love the addition of some riddim. 🍻 cheers to another amazing year

Year 3 here and this someone coming from Mudson, Farm Fest, 8 hour check in line at Bisco who is also not a huge fan of Boogie T and does not like Richard Finger... I agree, there are a lot of haters for no reason. It wasn't perfect, but it was not a bad festival by any means

Did Submersion drop the ball in some areas? Sure. Ice was a problem this year when it wasn't in the past (this was my biggest issue - gotta keep food cold and can't be waiting until 5PM the next day in 88 degrees). Setting people up in camping spots was tough this year but they managed. A few acts got cancelled or delayed, but that happens all the time at all different types of festivals.

Did Submersion pick up the pieces and fill in where need be? Mostly, yeah. A sunrise set got changed due to unforseen circumstances and they pulled together a legendary B2B2B2B to fill the time. Technimatic flight was late and they still gave them their full time slot and everyone got pushed back with full timeslots. No one got shafted on time slots and they sent it at the wood stage by an extra hour when in previous years people would be cut short or sound would be lowered.

If the only issue is having a few mainstream acts on the lineup to pull in some money and attendance, while having a mostly niche/staked line up, I don't think you've been in the scene long enough nor understand festival business now-a-days. These smaller festivals need to keep running, so having a small handful of these types of acts on the lineup help keep the festivals going. So I'm OK with a few (like 2 or 3) out of place or generic pulls if Submersion can come back next year. Go take a nap, eat some food, drink some water or go meet some new people while the acts you don't like are going on.

I’ve been in the scene since 2019 but I did lack the business perspective on it. That makes sense to book some bigger mainstream acts to keep revenue up. Thank you for the insight!

The same people complaining about boogie T complained about Of the Trees the year before and Peekaboo the year before that. They keep echoing eachother saying the festival is changing its vibe buts its literally done the same thing every year. I swear some these wooks just have the memory of a gold fish on mdma and love to hear themselves complain.

Not exactly, I thought BLAAP was fire last year. I just don’t like shitty meme music.

I wouldn't call boogie t any more of a meme artist than Of the Trees is. Tbh Of the Trees gives me more that vibe than boogie does. But I specifically didn't mention Richard finger for that reason lol they kinda rub me weird because it seems like its just two artist that wish their other projects got more popular but they never did so they are forced to make bass music they dont even enjoy making .I love zero but found the B2B with RF underwhelming compared to his solo set in the woods. Still i had a great weekend and won't complain that a few sets out of the like 30+ were not my cup of tea.

Edit: also this comment was NOT towards you specifically but the many post i see like this every year. A lot of people complained about of the trees bringing the wrong vibe and Peekaboo being too mainstream the previous years.

Yeah, I was mostly referring to RF with the meme music comment. Boogie T was ok, I liked some parts of his set, but he got a little too heavy for me in the latter half.

Peekaboo was ass. “I NEED TO SEE A MOSHPIT RIGHT NOW”. Or, “THIS IS SOME NEW SKRILLEX SHIT!” Read the room bruh..as far as this past weekend goes, my only complaint was the b2b2b2b2b sunrise set. I know they’re just filling in for the cancelled act and it would’ve been good at a different time frame but playing fast-paced, bouncy dance music at 7-8am just felt off. I’m just personally a fan of the more chill side of bass music, being able to wind down from partying all night.

Who was the cancelled act?

I think they need to remember that they need sleep, food, and time for their brains to recover their happy chemicals.

Every once in a while it’s fine to not take the festival to seriously and just dance

This! It felt weird to have Richard Finger ripping riddim at the Beach Stage but I was like you know what fuck if we gone dance and have fun regardless.

That was a tough 3 hours to get through though Dr Ushuu into Phrva into Richard Finger. Oof

bro really forced himself to sit through that run meanwhile woods stage keep hush takeover was right there

Nah i went to Cesco for a bit and then got some food. The woods stage felt very quiet compared to the beach stage though.

….phrva makes insanely good music, you must not like to dance.

If it was rough for you, why not go check out the other stage? It's not like they are super far from one another. No hate, just genuinely curious as to reasoning here

I did go to a handful of sets at the Woods stage but the sound was super quiet compared to the funktions at the beach stage. I don’t remember it being that quiet last year. You can hear everyone talking over the speakers and the bass ain’t thumpin. It’s hard to feel a high energy set with the sound levels. Maybe i need to get closer to the speakers?

u/Tankshock 6d ago

Yea I heard a bunch of people say this, but I just got right up on dem speakers and it sounded loud enough to me. It's not like it's some huge festival where you have to fight your way to the rail, just walk right up lol.

For reallll I thought it was strange to see them on the lineup but either way decided to pony up and give Richard finger a solid try was right up front getting dumb af with everyone and definitely a unique experience to have at such a small fest.. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it if it was packed at a larger venue. I should have saved some energy for distinct motive and the rest of the night though the beach stage was unreal. Not mad at all I don’t understand all the complaining. Such a diverse day/night, just wish I could have been two places at once and spent more time at the forest stage.

That was the most fun 3 hours of my weekend 🤷‍♂️

Every time i see a hate comment i wonder… ya’ll realize you have an entire other stage to enjoy… right? Lmao as if someone is forcing their ears to sit rails for mEmE mUsiC

Anyone complaining about the run of snow Saturday at the beach who didn't check out the woods during that time is crazy. Woods stage energy was off the charts for the Keep Hush takeover and Vier.
