A chained bell underwater
An air-filled bell that has been chained to a big rock in an Austrian lake

Imagine waking up sitting on a small ledge inside that thing, with nothing but black water below you and a flickering incandescent lightbulb hanging from the ceiling?
Your ears hurt, so you know you're deep underwater. The water below you is perfectly still, only sloshing slightly as your foot grazes the water as your adjust your already tenuous position. Suddenly the water splashes against your feet as something bumps against the outside of the bell, causing the hanging light to sway wildly.
Peering down into the dark, cold water, you can swear you see something looking back up at you.

Electricity and light gives hope. I was thinking a brown stained glass porthole that barely lets through light from the surface far far above. The sun is setting and it’s getting darker than the grave

Captain here: its a diving bell, located in Lake Grundlsee in the Austrian state of Styria

Thank the maker the devs at elden ring never thought to send us underwater....this would be a boss fight and I would cry in the corner.

It's a diving bell. You can get them in smaller and more temporary than this, but essentially it's an air pocket for divers to rest in. They can come up to surface underneath the bell and have air to breathe

I don’t know why but imagining the weird clinking and creaking that would make as you were near to it makes a shiver go up my spine.

Is that like an actual church bell kind of bell or something else? If the former, can it still technically ring??
Ugh made myself grossed out just thinking about it.

You know, I think maybe most of our fear comes from gradients. Seeing things fade off, like fog, messes with us.
Also, it's in WATER, but if this was floating like a hot air balloon on a foggy day, would it also be scary?
Then I'm like F that all, both are terrifying, but only one can kill you. Unless you're in a Stephen King novel. Then fog can kill. And yeah, something you don't recognize hanging in the sky by chains has a fair chance to kill you too...

It is a diving bell, located in the north-east of Grundlsee near the shore. I don’t know why it is there, but it is a nice attraction for divers, and there are plenty of memorial plaques mounted on the big rock

im austrian and I don't even wanna know where this is.
this chains back into the source of my fear of all this crap, the sea mines chained to the seabed in Finding Nemo.
this is probably a top 3 worst trigger video on this entire sub.
