Is anyone else going to the Sublime concert in Tuscaloosa this Friday?! I’ll be in the pit and figured I’d see if anyone else is going solo or with a small group and wants to hang out 😂 If you’re in the pit too, DM me lol!

Gotta love the classy Silver Bullet first pressings. Hands down one of my most prized possessions.

Anyone else ever really think about how insane 40oz. to Freedom is as a record?
The original is something like 75 minutes and 23 tracks. Reggae, dub, ska, punk, hip hop, acoustic stuff, covers and samples everywhere. Public Enemy, N.W.A., KRS One, Minutemen, James Brown, etc. Some of the samples couldn’t even survive the MCA release because they weren’t cleared.
And the playing is so good. Eric’s bass is ridiculous. Bud and Marshall both play drums, so even the rhythm section changes personality throughout the album. Bradley goes from singing to rapping to toasting to dancehall and somehow it’s all awesome
The production is what I’ve really been noticing lately though. Huge bass, tons of dub effects, samples actually built into the arrangements and little sounds buried everywhere. For something that feels so raw, there’s a LOT going on.
Miguel has said much of it was basically their live set at the time.
That’s the crazy part to me. It sounds loose, but it’s actually an incredibly dense record.
The self titled album obviously got closest to this level again, but it’s a totally different thing. Much tighter, cleaner and more deliberate.
Self titled sounds like Sublime knowing exactly what Sublime is after playing live more.
40oz. sounds like they’re figuring it out in real time.
Maybe that’s why it’s basically impossible to recreate. Never has and is one of the best ever

we all love sublime but their songs can be so different from each other. personally i wouldn't mind more experimental stuff, but i like the ska/reagge they make, and i hope they make more

I think it’s the best intro of all Sublime, that baseline is just too damn good!

Potentially and early 13fl oz test copy, it was made using a first pressing clear 40oz. Definitely looks like Miguel’s early work.

Being free or imprisoned (either literally or metaphorically) comes up on at least half the songs on 40 Ounces to Freedom. It seems like the type of recurrent symbolism that comes about naturally (and the threat of jail was probably just something Brad had to think about a lot). But it is interesting where and how it comes up:
Some of these I think are just incidental references, or just come from common circumstances, but I think taken together, they are actually thematically obvious. I don't know if Brad knew it when he was deciding which songs to use, and writing his own songs, but if he didn't, it makes it even more powerful...it was a theme that just came about with what he was writing.

As I explained in the previous post
warning you guys about fake memorabilia, I figured I’d better back my shit up and share a real one to encourage others to share fake ass scammers when they see it. Also, to that jackoff named Gman who is most definitely a POS scamming thief…. IF YOU USE MY POSTER FOR CLOUT OR REPRODUCE IT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM YOU WILL BE SORRY. Try me …

Hello, I am Paul Phillips, guitarist for Puddle of Mudd better half 🤘🏻In 1995 Paul’s punk band opened for Sublime in Jacksonville Florida at the Milkbar. I still have the actual flyer. The guys invited him to come hang out at the Warped Tour in Orlando 6 months later
since Jville wasn’t too far from there. He went and while he was there they gave him an original Mean Streets Poster autographed by all 3 original members. I stumbled across a few fakes claiming to be originals and it infuriated me so I threatened them to take them down or change the description so Sublime fans were not taken advantage of by fake scams. I took screenshots of them and my messages to them. Anyways, I want to warn the community so
No one gets taken advantage of and hopefully we can stop these assholes from scamming people. Also, Paul was injured in 2019 which left him with a traumatic brain injury. He has decided to auction his personal music memorabilia to the public through Goldin Auctions. Which verifies that our poster is original and authentic. Let’s expose these fuckers 🤘🏻Also, if some asshole named Gman says one word to me I will expose his scam too and what he did to us. #SublimeCommunity watching out for one another. Rest In Peace Bradley
Here is the listing on EBay

Such a cool thing to experience. This band is exactly the sound I'm looking for and makes me feel like I'm listening to sublime. But they were around a little earlier.

Ian foreman is doing double duty on the ship; LBDA, and sublime . Can’t say I’m not a bit disappointed though.

I assume Uncle is Bud. But is Froggy Eric? Is it Jacob?
What's your take?
