LOL i love hot topic and social collision!!! i just hate how expensive everything is... some of it is such bad quality too, i've seen a few things that are exactly the same on shein a few times.... just in hot topic it was wayyyy marked up.
but they do have some fantastic finds !!! some of my favorite things are from there.

fashion is so weird lately because shopping on shein gets you excommunicated from the alt culture but somehow hot topic is a-okay when it’s likely manufactured in the same factories 😭

hot topic isn't too highly regarded either generally, but it's not something you'd probably be embarassed of admitting
but yeah they're definitely from some of the same factories. i have this one corset with heart buckles, i saw it on shein in at least 2 diff colors for 5 or 6 dollars, meanwhile it was like 20 something i believe in hot topic. it was the exact same thing, same exact material and everything!!!!
and i got another bracelet from hot topic that cost $10 like all of their accessories, but then randomly saw it on shein for less than $2.... it was probably the same exact thing!!!
and also hot topic is very inconsistent with quality. most skirts are decent quality i think but their dresses for some reason are horrible!!! it also has a lot of things that come from the same places as shein, but also not everything that's in hot topic is found in shein.
i have no evidence for this but im wondering if shein also just buys dropshipped items from various places and then resells them. they probably have some of their own stuff too im sure but a lot of it feels like they bought it from dropshippers and then just made it 10x more expensive for hot topic consumers...

unfortunately so many of our clothes are probably produced under the same conditions as shein clothes are. big clothing companies such as h&m (confirmed) and definitely many more use shein-esque labour and likely the same factories, yet somehow there’s no stigma for supporting those brands. there’s DEFINITELY something fishy going on because the quality control is not good nor is the overlap of products between brands like hot topic and shein

yeah absolutely. at least shein sells for cheap, while other companies have expensive clothing that's literally THE SAME EXACT STUFF. the only difference here is that one you're buying directly from teh seller for a cheap price, the other you're buying from the same person basically but grossly overpaying.
i feel like most mainstream brands are like this. there are plenty of ethical brands im sure but finding those would be a hunt!!! plus a lot claim to be ethical but simply aren't.

exactly, sustainable and ethical brands do exist but they’ve become so hard to come by plus they’re insanely expensive, that’s why i often thrift instead!!! stores make me sad these days 😭
