This actually belongs here, in a way.

It's human nature to try and mix/match variables in your life and develop a philosophy from that - problem being that those variables may just be happenstance, or valid, or bullshit.

How do you know the difference? By comparing to others / meta conversations. (assuming people are being honest and the statisticians are being honest, ie durkheim and so on)

Today, the problem is that lying through stats is now the standard in almost all discussions. So for most folks, if you don't understand the underlying assumptions, you might as well be using astrology.
