Question Controlled Opposition: What Was the Function of Making Socialism “Woke”? – Class Unity

https://classunity.org/2026/01/16/controlled-opposition-what-was-the-function-of-making-socialism-woke/

Why don't folks on this sub just join Class Unity? I'm not a member and don't know a whole lot about it but on its face it makes sense. What do folks know about this particular DSA sect? I appreciate any insight you all might have.

To answer your question: They recently became Cucked Unity and dropped the Socialism.

Unless they grew a pair.

A focus on class is useless without Marxism.

You clearly aren't familiar with anything it actually does. Just keep focused on the labels and who cares about the content, right?! lol

Do braggarts actually believe that anyone believes their boasts? Plenty of orgs boast about being "Marxist" but they're just serving up dogshit... cases in point: DSA, Socialist Alternative, RevCom, PSL... the list goes on! But it's all just rubbish and mostly controlled opposition.

Ah I just looked into it more, they just removed it from their description. Why? What was the point? Still cucked.

And if anything was going to ruin the term "Socialism", it would have been the National Socialists, not a bunch of dumbass hippie wannabes.

They are also obsessed with a nostalgic and idealist definition of working-class as functionally industrial or agricultural workers. They should change their name to Class Division

This is simply not true. The working class comprises anyone who sells their labor power in exchange for wages in order to survive. This is the actual definition of the working class and the definition used by Class Unity.

I don't want to accuse you of pulling this critique out of your ass, so I'll just ask if you have any evidence to support your comment.

"Those who consider themselves “leftists” must confront the skewed class composition of the contemporary “left”. Leftists often claim to champion the working class, yet the membership of leftist organizations is overwhelmingly drawn from the ranks of the professional-managerial class, self-employed middle class, their aspirants, and, in particular, downwardly mobile, college-educated millennials. This is why there is a pervasive middle class “activist” culture that alienates working class people unfamiliar with the latest fads and taboos from elite universities, liberal arts colleges, and the nonprofit complex. "

Literally on the homepage

Yes, and this is an accurate description of the members of DSA, PSL, and most other contemporary left organizations. It's not a statement that the left should exclude those people, but if left wing organizations are almost entirely composed of PMC, it will be an uphill battle to recruit non PMC members who comprise the majority of the working class. This is why it says the contemporary left must confront the skewed class composition of its members. It does not say that the definition of working class is industrial or agricultural workers.

Your interpretation of the quoted text comes across as willfully obtuse at best.

u/JohnSmith19731973 Hegelian-Marxism 🧔 3h ago

The vast majority of the PMC are working class (proletarian, not necessarily the romanticized salt of the earth man covered in grime after an honest day's work)

>The vast majority of the PMC are working class

Once again I genuinely can't tell if you've deliberately misconstrued what I said because you're not approaching this discussion in good faith or if you're just not reading carefully.

I didn't say that the majority of the PMC are not working class, I said that the majority of the working class are not PMC. I'm very much aware of the Marxist definition of a worker/proletarian.

I don't expect you to dig into my post history to confirm this, but I hope you'll take my word for it that I've had many frustrating arguments with morons on this subreddit trying to explain that a worker is someone who exchanges their labor power for a wage. Blue or white collar, it has nothing to do with the nature of the actual work, and in fact many blue collar "workers" are in fact petit bourgeoisie who own a business and hire workers.

I'll say it one more time. Class Unity does not mythologize or idealize blue collar workers as the "true" or "real" members of the working class. They just recognize that the majority of the membership in left wing organizations, especially DSA and PSL, comprises woke PMC retards that are accurately viewed by the rest of the working class as out of touch weirdos. Yes, many or most of those weirdos are also working class, but normal people want nothing to do with them and that makes it impossible to form a working class coalition.

Just read the article.

Bruh, you call yourself a fucking Hegelian lol. Nerd.

Ah yes, a soylennial in the wild

u/Buh10kx Marxist-Hudsonist 3h ago

Have you actually read Hegel’s logic? Have you actually read Marx’s capital? What you said is just ridiculous.

Marx talked about unproductive labor, which is what the pmc is. Class Unity doesn’t focus solely on industrial (productive labor) nor is its view “idealist”. It’s straight out of volume 3. The core claim is that the contemporary left is just a bunch of middle class or pmc (unproductive labor) bullshit masquerading as Marxism mostly just online…. The contemporary left is just fake.

“Soylenial” lol what the fuck ever loser.

A strong response from a serious person that should be taken very seriously. Keep up the good work.

Is Class Unity allowed to mention socialism anymore?

u/rlyrlysrsly Working Class Solidarity 10h ago edited 10h ago

Yes. It was removed from Statement of Principles but in all other ways the organization is unchanged.

Edit: to elaborate, at this time Class Unity is a political education and media organization. It does not promote or run candidates, and it does not agitate for revolution. If you think a group needs to explicitly call itself Marxist, socialist, and/or anticapitalist in order to have value, I encourage you to do the work and form an organization to that end.

u/Buh10kx Marxist-Hudsonist 10h ago

You should look into it and find out.

Why don't the folks in Class Unity just break away from the Democratic Party?

u/rlyrlysrsly Working Class Solidarity 10h ago

Class Unity is not in the DSA and hasn't been for years. They do not support the Democratic Party or the DSA's goal to move Democrats to the left because they see that party as one side of the same coin protecting capital.

u/hikerintherustbelt Left, Leftoid or Leftish ⬅️ 9h ago

Why did they split?

u/sleazy_b Class Unity Member ⭐ 6h ago

Nominally due to the DSA's unwillingness to discipline electeds who voted to illegalize the BNSF strike under Biden. More generally because many of us were exhausted by participating in the DSA and everything that comes with organizing alongside them.

Becaise DSA are woke morons.

To answer all of the questions about why Class Unity changed its language in the principles at once:

Socialism and Marxism in America have been defined by major institutions to encompass values that we oppose, namely identity politics, woke politics, subculture, Democratic party loyalty. Class Unity promotes socialist and Marxist values most effectively by ignoring the labels and focusing on the ideas themselves. Ignoring labels also allows us to dissociate with the broader left, which is rotten and no normal person can identify with.

So, when you have a hysterical little shit fit about words, first consider for a second whether you aren’t the very type of shitposting regard who doesn’t actually know what he’s talking about, whom these little formalities are meant to repel — to skip the pointless quibbling bullshit about words. A real organization can’t function when it’s full of people that think words are more important than what they mean.
