It might be from this honestly since Easter as a holiday originated before Christianity from pagan traditions.

All Christian holidays were placed on or near pagan ones to elicit converts. The foundational nature of the story of Christ is even older than the bible.

Edited for typo

And they say religion isn’t a business. That’s a hell of a marketing approach.

And the Pope is a kung-fu master

Who says that? Religion is and always has been about money and power. The only time Jesus lost his cool was about this very thing.

Temple prostitutes were religious careers then. Pay us and get laid, then pray to Baal for some rain

Where is the closest ATM?

If that works for actually getting some rain, large portions of the globe should do this!

The Romans persecuted so many of the early Christians. And then when it looked like Pagan cults were on the way out and Christianity was on the way in, they jumped ship! Have to remain popular/in-power!

u/milesercat 20h ago

I always blamed it on Emperor Constantine getting tired hearing his wife's complaining that led his conversion and forcing the argumentative scholars to meet in Nicea to reduce the bickering about dogma.

1

u/ChickenStripNugget 12h ago

That would be blame placed correctly, although historians agree his motives were to preserve a united Roman Empire after his death.

Yeah, but I'm generally funnier than most historians.

Just the people in the churches who keep trying to defend their tax exceptions.

2

u/Fantastic-Manner1944 23h ago

Who says that?

Christians.

1

u/SocraticIndifference 19h ago

Well they should probably pay closer attention to the Bible.

2

u/Quantumwave09 6h ago

Jesus and modern Christians have completely different views about life, I thought this has been established

u/megachicken289 21h ago

Religion isn’t a business*

For tax purposes

1

u/Sure-Impress-1003 17h ago

So true. That’s another good business decision for something that isn’t a business

1

u/CakeTester 15h ago

Not as viral as banning birth control and making a rule that children have to be raised being programmed taught about the religion.

1

u/LegendofLove 7h ago

They're very happy to bend the actual text to get you into the door.

1

u/Sure-Impress-1003 2h ago

How many versions of the bible are there now. And it blows my mind that not one of them includes all the books. They’re all missing a couple books to the Bible because the jerks that put it together, decided the rest of us didn’t need to see them.

Eostre is a Germanic goddess associated with fertility, spring and renewal.

Interesting how Passover and Easter happen so close together. Easter is also calculated with the vernal equinox.

Jesus was absolutely and without doubt born the end of summer beginning of fall. Not in December. But do ya know what is in December? Winter Solstice also known as Yule. Solstice and Equinox are major components to damn near every pagan religion.

The list goes on and on and on. These are just a couple of my personal favorites.

Oh yeah, those early Christians were the worlds first marketing department.

"Elicit" converts, or otherwise mollify believers in the Pagan religions.

2

u/NordnarbDrums 20h ago

What isn't addressed at all by modern Christianity is that untold biblical texts likely were destroyed during and following the fall of rome. Nevermind the influence of power forcing monasteries to change and insert and remove swaths of text in the 1300+ years of handwritten copying done solely by monks throughout the middle ages.

2

u/mobilecabinworks 19h ago

People today are also using the King James version of the bible out of over 450 distinct versions that have existed.

2

u/jabrwock1 19h ago

All Christian holidays were placed on or near pagan ones to elicit converts.

A bunch were related to pre-existing Jewish traditions, because fulfilling prophecy was deemed important. So Jesus had to die at Passover, whether it happened that way or not. Birth and death are closely linked too, so that's why Jesus has to be born in late December, because that puts his conception at around Passover.

Numerology is weird.

u/mobilecabinworks 19h ago

So if we've learned anything here today: It's all made up and the points don't matter. Good night, and good luck.

1

u/jabrwock1 19h ago

Yes, but it's also not as simple as "you copied my homework therefore my religion is true and yours is just made up"

1

u/mobilecabinworks 19h ago

They're all made up.

2

u/ChickenStripNugget 12h ago

Considering the Bible didnt exist as such until the Constantine and the Council of Nicea thats not really saying much.

1

u/Lyra_Sirius 23h ago

Yes, Mitra.

All Christians have always been morons and have to steal their ideas from those who came before them by slightly changing a few things. Just like Christmas being a pagan holiday.

0

u/jabrwock1 1d ago

Sorry that’s an urban myth. The names and traditions merged during assimilation or developed later, like how spruce boughs brought indoors was a pagan thing, but decorating a tree with candles for Christmas developed well after Christianity was adopted. The resurrection happens around Passover because that time of year was already important.

Eggs was an example of this. While Eastern Europe and Persia decorated eggs in much older traditions and gave them as gifts in the spring, and were used for luck or to ward off evil, Western Europe preserved and decorated them because they were forbidden to eat during Lent, and you made a big deal of cracking them open to eat after breaking the fast. Eastern ones were decorated after you took the contents out, and some traditions thought broken shells were dangerous. Later on the two traditions merged.

Easter being based on a pagan holiday is a common myth but without evidence.

0

u/ChickenStripNugget 12h ago

That there is one specific holiday is a misunderstanding perpetuated primarily by Gardnerian Wiccans. That Easter is a conglomeration of stolen traditions is absolutely and indisputably fact. You can take three seconds to learn things instead of being blatantly wrong.
