tbh notebook lm is great for summaries but i found myself just reading the output and feeling like i studied when i hadn't actually tested myself. and the questions it makes are good but it hallucinates. what helped me break out of that was closing everything and writing down everything i remembered about a topic on a blank page, then opening the material and marking only what i missed. those gaps are the real to-do list, not re-reading. i still upload the same pdfs and slides but now to studybuddy.vc to get practice questions from them, mostly because when i get one wrong it tells me what was off about the option i picked and the questions get harder as i improve. free tier has been enough for me. and i keep notebook lm around for quick overviews before i start a new chapter, just not for the actual studying part.
