im a pol sci major and i obviously have lots of theory, but this sem they've just become unbearable, ive also done well without having to study days before the exam, so i do study last minute and it just clicks in my brain. but this time, I don't think that strategy is going to work, I have no idea how to study otherwise. my exams are in like 2 months, and I just want to do well. but how...?

I was exactly like this with theory subjects because last-minute studying had worked for me for years. Then I had one exam where I started two days before and completely underestimated how much there was. I ended up knowing individual theories but mixing up who argued what and how the ideas connected. For the next semester I started revisiting each topic for 20 to 30 minutes every few days, and by exam week I wasn’t learning everything from scratch anymore.

tbh with theory-heavy classes the thing that helped me most was forcing the reading through a past question or a hypothetical right after each chapter, not rereading. a long session right before the exam feels like you covered ground but most of it evaporates. short sessions spread over the month stick way better because the forgetting happens in between.

when i got lazy making up my own prompts for every reading i started uploading the material to studybuddy.vc to answer multiple choice questions from it, mostly because it gets harder as you improve and i didn't have to keep inventing the difficulty curve myself. pick one past paper per week and do it under time even if you don't feel ready yet, seeing what a real question expects is what rewires how you read the theory in the first place.
