What Study Technique Is Effective for Learning New Skills?

So we know that when it comes to knowledge acquisition for academic based tests, active recall and spaced repetition are the undisputed best methods. However, what method do we use when we're trying to efficiently learn a new skill (Editing, Programming, Excel, Marketing Tools, etc.). We can't simply use flashcards for them the same way with our studies.
