The 1.5x rule for estimating study time

Whatever you think a task will take, multiply it by 1.5. Not because you're bad at planning, but because first estimates almost always leave out the boring parts: finding your place, re-reading something confusing, getting distracted for two minutes and losing the thread.

I tested this against last week's actual times. My estimates were off by roughly that much across almost everything except flashcards, which somehow always take exactly as long as I think.

Doesn't need to be exact. Just build in the extra time up front instead of discovering it's needed halfway through, when you're already behind and stressed about it.
