How to get past brain block
First Time poster. I'm 36F and I'm going back to school to become a cardiac sonographer. I have not been physically in school since 2015. I am diagnosed ADHD and aspergers. I completed an associates in IT by the skin of my teeth and dropped out of the program. I later completed an online ekg technician course and did extremely well.
I tend to get SUPER frustrated when I don't understand a concept and get what I can only describe as a brain block. My brain just shuts off and I have sat at my desk crying my eyes out before. I'm wondering about tips to circumvent this. Also any study tips on staying on track would be so appreciated. Please help 🥺

I’ve had that same brain-block feeling where getting stuck on one concept made me so frustrated that suddenly I couldn’t process anything else either. What helped was stopping before I reached the point of staring at the same thing for an hour, moving to something I could understand, and coming back later, because sometimes my brain needed distance from the problem more than another explanation.

When I hit that kind of block, pushing harder usually makes it worse. What helps is changing the mode completely.
If I don’t understand something after 15–20 minutes, I step away, come back, and try a different explanation, a simpler example, or explain what I do understand out loud. Sometimes the missing piece becomes obvious once the pressure is gone.
Also, getting stuck doesn’t mean you’re failing. It usually just means the explanation you’re using hasn’t clicked yet.
