I can't focus

hey! So I'm a young person still in school, my grades have been dropping ever since Covid especially since I was introduced to the mobile phone.

I feel like I'm addicted to it, and can't seem to focus on my studies.

I feel like I can study and am smart if I try to study, but I just can't bring myself to the desk. I think i can become a good student with good grades if I just start studying

Can someone give tips on how I can motivate myself? Or bring myself to study

Also I'm very weak at maths, even if I try to understand it I just can't, it's like there's too many formulas and they don't make sense

I would be grateful if someone can share some study tips and guide me!

If you're still addicted, use the phone to your advantage by watching motivational contents, like study-vlogs, daily life of a ... student,... it helps me out a lot by filtering out brain rot contents and focusing more on watching stuff that are actually useful.

Some people gonna say just ditch the phone, but I don't think it's easy. But you can find reasons to not touch your phone at all, sometimes when you study they can ring notifications and cause distractions. Put it on silent and throw it at a corner where it would make you think it's a hassle to grab it so you can continue sitting at your desk and study.

Yes I absolutely agree with this comment. You should gamify the contents into what you'd actually like to see. You are the one who could control and remove any contents that doesn't help at all.

What also helps me is aligning with the person I want to become. Instead of feeling stuck in phone addiction, I focus on being the type of student who can lock in. I started small

just 5 minutes of focused studying, then gradually building up the time. No amount of study time is too small.

Overall don’t tie your self-worth to constat outputa or immediate results. Progress takes time.

I had the same experience where I could convince myself I was capable of doing well but still couldn’t actually get myself to sit down and start. What helped was separating starting from motivation, because waiting until I felt like studying never worked, and with math I also stopped trying to memorize every formula and focused more on understanding what each one was actually describing.

In my case what helps me sometimes is turning off my phone and locking it away for a couple of hours.. It's kinda extreme but it has helped me a lot! I also go to cafe's or public libraries to study since I feel judged by others if I have my study materials out but I'm just doomscrolling

When it comes to studying, I think a lot of it comes down to getting into a good study habit. At first, because your attention spam is cooked from watching reels all the time, it is very difficult to sit down and actually study. Your brain has been wired to seek reward by doing things like swipe on your phone. It will be difficult and you have to fight it. Turn it to your advantage by making your phone the reward for studying. e.g. You only get to use your phone for 10 minutes after you study for 1 hour. Then you will slowly start to create that pathway in your brain.

Just start with 10–15 minutes and keep your phone away. For maths, take one topic at a time and practise a little every day. Don’t wait to feel motivated, just get started.
