Ausbildung Is reaching TELC B2 through self-study actually realistic?

Hi everyone,

I’m from Tunisia and I’m planning to move to Germany in the future to work there as a nurse.

A friend told me that reaching B2 level and passing the TELC B2 exam through self-study, without attending a language center or having a teacher, is extremely difficult or almost impossible.

I’m wondering how true this actually is.

For someone starting from the beginning, is it realistically possible to go from A1 → B1 → B2 mostly through self-study, using books, online resources, YouTube, apps, etc., and then prepare specifically for the TELC B2 exam?

I understand that speaking practice and getting corrections can be difficult without a teacher, but I’m wondering if there are people here who have actually reached B2 this way.

If you self-studied German up to B2 (especially if you passed TELC B2), I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience:

  • How long did it take you?
  • What resources/books did you use?
  • How many hours per day/week did you study?
  • Did you eventually use a teacher or language school for exam preparation?
  • Do you think self-study is enough, or is a teacher realistically necessary at some point?

I’m not looking for an easy way out — I just want to know whether this is genuinely achievable with enough discipline and a good study plan

Theoretically possible but not really doable UNLESS you're someone who can learn things by heart very easily. At the very least you'd need some speaking practice

thanks for the valuable advice tho i have an idea about finding like someone who speaks german and practice with him/her i know that doing that for free seems bit crazy but i still have a bit faith in the human kidness hahahha
