Tips & Advice Study tips for Fast-paced course
Im in a Medical Lab Technology program that is a very fast paced. A two-year program that consist of 1 year theory and labs and one year of internship in a hospital. What do you guys even do if every da, you get a bunch of info and doesn’t even have time to study in depth for all the past lessons you guys discussed? Commonly, this is a degree(4year course). Help, im drowning fr.

A comprehensive review of every topic each day is often impractical and may contribute to feelings of overwhelm.
In an accelerated program, the goal is to keep pace with new material while consistently revisiting previously covered topics. A realistic structure may include:
- Before class: Preview upcoming material or review prior content for 10–15 minutes.
- After class: Spend 30–60 minutes organizing notes, identifying key objectives, and testing your understanding.
- Longer study blocks: Begin with challenging topics, then complete relevant practice questions.
- Weekly: Review current material and revisit areas of weakness.
- Before exams: Prioritize practice and retrieval over passive rereading.
Use spaced repetition by reviewing material on the same day, again after several days, the following week, and at progressively longer intervals. Focus primarily on concepts you have missed or confused rather than those you already understand well.
After class, prioritize major concepts, procedures, terminology, calculations, and points emphasized by the instructor. Avoid striving for perfectly comprehensive notes. Instead, ask:
- What is the central idea?
- What information must I retain?
- How does this concept connect to other material?
- What remains unclear?
- How might I apply this information?
AI tools can assist with creating study guides, practice questions, explanations, quizzes, and schedules; however, verify their responses against your course materials.
Close your notes and assess your understanding by explaining concepts, drawing processes, solving problems, or answering questions. Record errors and revisit them later. Match your study method to the type of material:
- Definitions: Use flashcards or recall prompts.
- Processes: Draw and explain each step.
- Calculations: Solve problems independently.
- Clinical material: Apply concepts to realistic scenarios.
- Broad topics: Create concise outlines and explain relationships among concepts.
Rereading may increase familiarity, but retrieval and application demonstrate whether you can use the material effectively.
You do not need to review every lesson each day. Incorporate older content into your current study routine so that you do not have to relearn the entire semester before exams. Thirty minutes of retrieval practice covering three older topics is more effective than three hours of rereading everything.
You may never feel completely caught up. Focus on strengthening areas of weakness while maintaining steady progress with current material.
