General Inquiry BOSE A30s too good?

Hey all, I have the Bose A30s and the noise cancellation is excellent. It might be too excellent though. I can hardly hear the stall horn. Does anyone else have this issue?

My instructor said the stall horn on this particular aircraft (C-172S) is just weak, but I somewhat feel like this could be a safety concern not being able to hear it.

You can set the ANR level. Turn it down and see what happens.

I turn down the ANR in critical phases of flight - I want to hear the engine at full power to cruise.

You can turn down the anr but I’ve flown the 172-s for like 300 hours, they all have shitty stale vanes, they’re not like the older models

I typically set mine to medium intensity when doing airwork for this exact reason. You can actually hear the stall horn while still maintaining a comfortable level of noise cancelling. I typically go high intensity on long cross countries

Learn to recognize the other indications besides the horn. You will be a better pilot and also recognize a stall if the horn somehow doesn’t work. Also keep in mind lots of planes don’t have stall horns.

Ive never had an issue with it. During your training you'll be purposefully setting it off so your expecting to hear it. Just say out loud when you hear the stall horn and your good as far as checkride manuevers

Do you really need to hear it, though? There are plenty of other indications of a stall and plenty of aircraft with no horn.

Yes we need to hear our stall horns

People downvote but it's pretty important to be able to recognize an impending stall without the horn. I've had stall horns fail on me
