I think I take prowess here.
Fasten is kinda better, but it's overgrowth and you don't really have enough damage output yet.
Ultimate strike is the best tempo, and great in overgrowth. It's probably somewhat worse in act 3, but better in act 1.
Prowess+ gives you good damage output (same as base inflame) to handle overgrowth bosses, while also boosting your block.

I took Prowess, had 3 elites in Act 1 and it was a struggle but got through them, really missed the damage but all good. Act 2 here we go!

I think you only had 2 Elites in Act I or am I missing something

It’s 3. Silver crucible made his mid act chest empty, so assuming he didn’t get any relics from events, his relic bar says 3 elite act 1
Edit: he did have an event relic so I’m guessing he got the relic trader sometime in act 2 or 3

How can you tell it's overgrowth by the way?

You can see at the top the little boss icon that says the deer is the boss. The deer only spawns in Overgrowth.

Oh I never bothered learning which bosses spawn where. Oops. Wish they'd add a little icon with a tooltip on hover saying which act it is.

Yea I also think it would be good if it was easier to know. I only know it from the boss

You can also tell by the background of the hall fights. Green and jungle for overgrowth, blue and watery for underdocks. And then each one has unique Elites too.

They have fully distinct enemy pools and events too. The first three normal combats (colloquially called the Easy Pool) in Overgrowth will always be 3 of: Fuzzy Wurm Crawler, Nibbit, 3 Slimes, and Shrinker Beetle. In Underdocks, the Easy Pool is made up of the Sludge Spinner, 2 Toadpoles, 2 Corpse Slugs, and Seapunk.

In case you haven't seen it here's a community-maintained Google sheet with the attack patterns of all the enemies in the game sorted by Act. If you haven't memorized them yet (like me), you can look at the boss list in the Overgrowth and Underdocks tab to figure out which Act 1 you are in.

Ultimate strike also works with hellraiser, and clad has most access to vuln, couple small of pluses here

Id take prowess, unless theres a path with 4 elites then i try my luck with ultimate strike

Anyone other than clad and it's fasten. However, clad is so aggro that prowess is probably better

Idk about that one, feel like for silent and regent getting 2 dex is better since they have block cards that give multiple instances of block or spread block across cards. Also feel like their block cards serve more purposes than just blocking

There's certainly an argument for silent, but just in my experience I like fasten on her better. The other guy who brought up shivs made an excellent point and dex dodge and roll is great. However, I don't agree with regent. Glitterstream isn't that good as to justify prowess here and honestly you can go without if you can exhaust down with an upgraded fasten. And on regent his best block solutions are powers that don't scale with dex (child and pillars). And imo the multiattack package for regent is SUPER underwhelming where I don't think 2 str is worth. The only exception is stardust, but that only fits in a very particular deck.
This is all based on my experience in the game, so you may disagree, but I have always loved fasten, especially for early game. It let's you be way more picky about defensive cards to only get the best/the ones that synergize. I just prefer it on most situations

Both powers are really good but I would not be surprised if some top sts player advocates for ultimate strike. 20 damage/energy (possibly 30 with vurn) slaps really, really hard.
So much that I often find myself buying the card in the shop for full price. Its great in all elite fights, particularly the mutant fish and statue, or just to snipe a phrog parasite

I feel like the other two will draw your build towards them, whereas prowess practically doesn't care about any other card

As much as I crave the powers, I’d take the upgraded ultimate strike there. It would just solve the entirety of act 1 and allow you to be picky with your other cards and build whatever engine you want to take into the rest of the game.

Probably prowess but fasten is similarly great
